  • Position Summary

    In collaboration with the Manager of Meters and Fiber Infrastructure, coordinates and directs the work of meter technicians engaged in the installation and maintenance metering applications, testing of meters and related equipment, and other related work as required.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Assists ensuring good working conditions, and provides the opportunity for maximum creativeness, personal satisfaction, and sense of accomplishment for the Meter Shop personnel.
    • Assists in directing personnel as assigned, including planning, scheduling, organizing, and directing work, training personnel, and recommending applicants for employment or discipline.
    • Maintains a positive work environment and exhibits cooperative behavior.
    • Monitors safety, the quality of work and job performance of Meter Shop personnel.
    • Coordinates with other departments as necessary to perform work functions.
    • Coordinate meter services with staking and engineering as needed.
    • Work with warehouse vendors to maintain meter inventory as well as miscellaneous other materials needed in the meter shop.
    • Oversee collection and verification of vector sheets, multipliers, and current / voltage transformer ratios.
    • Ensure regular testing of voltage and current transformers and keep records of results.
    • Assign tasks / Service Orders as needed.
    • Schedule and aid in installation of metering equipment on transformers, transockets, and primary metering points.
    • Assist with meter training for interdepartmental requests as well as meter shop progression.
    • Aid in scheduling field metering repairs as needed.
    • Aid in developing and overseeing meter programs.
    • Aid in monitoring network communications and identifying new device locations.
    • Schedule member meter tests as needed.
    • Work with members and operations to identify and address FCC complaints.
    • Maintain awareness of industry metering standards and changes to best practices. Report to management as needed.
    • Work with Enterprise to gather information for reports.
    • Aid in scheduling Command Center upgrades.
    • Aid in pushing Firmware and DCW upgrades.
    • Assist with ERCOT EPS Testing

    Position Requirements

    • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent required.
    • Minimum of 5 years experience in metering and 3 years experience with RF communications.
    • Successful completion of a metering apprenticeship program preferred.
    • Experience with ERCOT EPS metering preferred.

    Abilities and Skills

    Communication Skills - Effectively communicating with the general public and maintaining good member-owner relations. Listening to and understanding instructions and requesting clarification as needed, especially during outage restorations, switching, and troubleshooting.

    Communicating complex instructions clearly and precisely, answering questions related to such instructions. Seeking assistance as necessary.

    Maintaining accurate records.

    • Advanced Leadership Skills - Performing as a team leader and leading by example. Contributing to and helping to form team goals and working well with others.
    • Analytical Skills - Using initiative to increase job knowledge and technical skills. Understanding the workflow. Applying technical knowledge and skills to resolve complex problems associated with essential job functions.

    Managing multiple tasks simultaneously. Applying decision-making skills to make decisions within established policies and procedures.

    Using tools and test equipment to perform troubleshooting. Calculating transformer full-load current (amps) and fault current (amps).

    Vocational Skills - Operating and maintaining bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other equipment including but not limited to mini-excavators, forklifts, tractors, pole trailers, wire pullers, winches, wire tensioners, backyard machines, hydraulic pole jacks, trenchers, chain saws, and power tools.

    Climbing poles to perform essential job functions. Operating and maintaining tools used in line construction, maintenance, and power restoration.

    Computer Skills - Using and understanding work process software on an iPad to navigate our map and fill out forms. Using an iPad or computer to watch lineman apprenticeship videos, check email, and complete timesheets, etc.
