    Position Overview

    Primary Purpose of Position
    The TRIO Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program Coordinator serves within the Division of Academic Affairs and will report directly to the TRIO Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program Director. The Coordinator will assume collaborative responsibilities for organization, coordination, tracking, and execution of required project services and and events. The Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that activities and services are provided in accordance with institutional, state and federal policies. This individual should be sensitive to and knowledgeable of the needs of students from first-generation, low-income families and otherwise disadvantaged backgrounds. In addition, the Coordinator must be capable of utilizing the resources of the program, the institution and the community in generating options that are adequate to meet the needs of project participants. The Coordinator will also assist the Director in completion of the TRIO Ronald E. McNair grant application at the end of each 5-year Grant Cycle.

    The TRiO McNair Program Coordinator supports the successful execution of the Department of Education funded TRIO Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program at NCATSU. The purpose of the McNair project is to guide and mentor program participants in research activities and graduate school preparation. The McNair Scholars Program prepares first generation, low-income and underrepresented University students to apply for and gain admittance to PhD programs.
    Work Hours M-F 8:00am-5:00pm; but may be required to work evenings and/or weekends to fulfi ll special projects and other needs of the department.
    Is this position eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. On-site (Employees are primarily in the office and/or have a critical job requirement that requires dedicated office space on-site)
    Key Responsibilities and Related Competencies

    Duties

    • Assist Scholars in navigating academic policies and procedures that govern successful degree completion, and graduate school enrollment by providing ongoing academic monitoring and mentoring.
    • Prepare students for graduate school experiences by encouraging them to explore research opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.
    • Coordinate all aspects of program activities (workshops, events, seminars, travel, etc.) as directed by grant leadership.
    • Coordinate application process and selection of eligible McNair Scholars.
    • Maintain accurate and complete confidential student records as required by the grant, federal and state administrative policy.
    • Apply demonstrated knowledge of TRIO or other higher education academic programs and support services and effective practices supporting student retention and graduation.
    • Apply demonstrated understanding and commitment to first-generation students and students from historically underrepresented groups in higher education.
    • Apply demonstrated intentional commitment to diversity and inclusion through the vehicle of educational access, opportunity and best practices for target population
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Experience with academic, career and personal counseling/coaching, plus financial literacy
    • Ability to cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff and program partners/allies
    • Assist with identifying and selecting faculty mentors for students.
    • Creation of promotional program material
    • Management of program social media presence
    • Submission monthly reports to Supervisor
    • Supervision of student travel (air/land) by day, overnight and/or weekends as needed
    • Other duties as assigned

    • Maintaining expense records, travel documents, and program student files
    • Proficient database skills to include Microsoft Suite, Social Media
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a proactive manner.

    • Research of applicable graduate school visit opportunities, research conferences, and scholarly activities
    • Collection of supplemental data for federal, state and institutional reporting
