Corporate Compliance Director manages the compliance programs, policies, reporting, and practices for an organization or business. Ensures that all activities follow regulatory requirements related to the governance of the organization as well as any industry-specific or location-specific laws. Being a Corporate Compliance Director oversees internal controls and auditing systems that monitor and report on regulated activities and processes. Implements risk-based compliance testing of existing procedures and controls to identify, detect, and correct noncompliance. Additionally, Corporate Compliance Director evaluates and implements changes to compliance processes due to new or amended regulations.     The Global Corporate Communications director will be a trusted Corporate Communications professional within the Berry Global Marketing team.  As a Global Corporate Communications Manager, you will be responsible for managing and leading the global communications manager and social media marketing specialist, overseeing the management of external global public relations and marketing consultants. This critical Berry communication expert will be responsible for the development and execution of strategic communications strategies and tactics for impact that support and furthers the goals of the global company Brand. 

     

    The Global Communications Director will manage initiatives to completion in the necessary timeframe, including media outreach, digital strategies, online and in-person events, and message development. This role also will work in collaboration with other value chain stakeholder groups to advance shared goals.

     

    Communication responsibilities will span across both external and internal communications. External communications will focus on priority campaigns and issues including customer-facing programs, creating company position statements regarding plastics regulation and legislation, and company spokesperson leadership platforms.  Internal communications will focus on building the company culture, aligning with the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion strategy, and creating clear global communications across town hall events, internal communication channels, and leadership messaging that are consistent and aligned with the company’s values and mission.

     

    This position requires exceptional writing skills; strong collaboration skills, organization, and diplomacy; a keen interest in political and environmental issues; and an ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously on various issues. An ideal candidate would have experience executing ESG campaigns.

     

    This Global Communications Director will report to the Vice President of Marketing, with dotted lines to the CHRO and Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion because of the importance and priority of those functions in this position.

    Responsibilities

    People and Talent Management

    • Manage and mentor a high-performing team and cross-functional partners with a focus on growth and development. Collaborate with and lead cross-functional teams to achieve joint objectives
    • Continually build skills among communications program staff to help achieve strong communication results through various channels (media, digital, speaking engagements, etc.)
    • Develop and implement employee engagement programs to grow team health

     

     

    External Corporate Communications

    • Execute long-term, strategic communications planning, and drive forward the implementation of advocacy-oriented communications plans; track effectiveness and reevaluate as needed to achieve goals
    • Produce materials for internal teams and external partners to assist and support their engagement on priorities, including media talking points, fact sheets, backgrounders, policy support letters, toolkits, and other outreach materials
    • Develop, refine, and promote content for key media targets; this includes writing, editing, and promoting to target audiences, media statements, op-eds, spotlight articles, web pages and social media posts
    • Develop and manage paid media as part of business case approval
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with targeted journalists; work to take advantage of press opportunities; and get Berry experts, analysis and reports included in relevant stories. This includes developing talking points and collateral; media outreach; placing op-eds; coordinating meetings with journalists
    • Manage external events to promote the team’s work, including drafting speeches, advising on spokespersons, digital promotion, and media outreach, etc
    • Facilitate content review and approvals across functions to ensure accurate and strategic corporate communications 
    • Respond to breaking news and legislative events
    • Accountable for social media platform brand/campaign consistency, performance, & measurement reporting
    • Accountable for PR channel(s) brand/campaign consistency, performance in media coverage & measurement reporting

    Internal Corporate Communications

    • Participate in advancing Berry DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with Berry values and the DEI strategy
    • Develop and implement communication strategies to ensure that employees are informed, and engaged about the company’s goals, objectives, and policies inclusive of tactics like company town halls, internal communications, etc
    • Manage the company’s intranet and other internal communication channels
    • Support site HR and plant managers through media requests and crisis communication

    Qualifications

     

    • Bachelor's degree plus 10 years marketing/communications experience; environmental and manufacturing experience is a plus
    • Exceptional writing and editing skills for executive leadership, employee communications, policymaker and customer audiences
    • Proven experience leading, managing and mentoring staff and cross-functional teams
    • Excellent project, time management and organizational skills
    • Independent problem-solving and crisis communications skills
    • Proven ability to develop and use sophisticated communication strategies to achieve a communication plan
    • Solid record of producing media coverage in international, national, and diverse outlets
    • Demonstrated ability to build a business case for additional funding for program initiatives and results
    • Track record of success in leading annual corporate reporting
    • Extensive proficiency in strategic use of social and digital media
    • Advanced knowledge of media database platforms such as Meltwater
    • Ability to work occasional non-standard hours, across time zones with a geographically dispersed team 
    • Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds
