Work Hours: Various Weekday Shifts, May Also Include Nights, Weekends & Holidays
THE POSITION
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: performs residential, commercial and industrial site
inspections; receives complaints and determines existence and type of code violation, establishes legal
owner required to take corrective action; proactively identify and resolve public nuisance violations;
receive complaints and determine existence and type of code violation; issue notices of violation and
administrative citations; maintain accurate records and document related actions taken in the City’s
database; interpret, apply and explain applicable municipal codes, zoning ordinances, building codes,
vehicle codes, health and safety codes and other related laws and regulations; explain processes and
procedures for obtaining compliance and appropriate permits; effectively deal with non-cooperative
people; make sound decisions within established guidelines; establish positive working relationships with
representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies, City staff, local business owners and
community residents.
QUALIFICATIONS (A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of the
following combination of education and experience.)
Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience: Two years of relevant experience that includes significant public contact and the
performance of code enforcement activities; such as, the enforcement of public laws or
regulations and conducting complaint investigations. Prior experience in the Public Sector
and the ability to speak Spanish is highly desired.
License/
Certificate: A valid Class C California driver license with a satisfactory driving record. Possession of /
or ability to obtain a P.C. 832 certification within six months of employment.
