Position Introduction
The Compliance Officer is responsible for planning and directing the environmental health, safety (EHS) and some risk management activities of the Saint Mary’s College campus. This includes establishing and maintaining effective safety programs in the areas of fire and life safety, chemical safety, biological safety, radiological safety, laboratory/general/shop safety, hazardous materials management, industrial hygiene, accident and injury prevention, environmental compliance, emergency response, risk management, and loss control, and assuring that such programs are in conformity with state and federal regulations and the goals and requirements of Saint Mary's College.
Job Description
The Compliance Officer will direct and ensure the adequate investigation, reporting, and analysis of accidents to prevent recurrence, and provide adequate training and education for department directors, chairs, supervisors and employees. This position will manage the hazardous chemical waste program in compliance with EPA regulations, and conduct general safety inspections of campus facilities and recommend changes to improve safety regulation compliance; Monitor monthly fire extinguisher inspections and annual maintenance.
The Compliance Officer will maintain and ensure implementation of emergency response policies and procedures in the event of chemical spills, accidents, or emergencies, and establish a procedure for conducting periodic risk management/safety and health inspections so that potential hazards are detected and corrected or controlled in a timely manner.
The Compliance Officer plans and directs college safety programs designed to promote safety, verify program implementation and evaluate effectiveness, and serve as the College’s primary interface with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies including, but not limited to the US Environmental Protection Agency, the Indiana Department of Health, the Indiana Insurance Commission, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, the State Attorney General’s Office, and Saint Joseph County.
