The Project Manager is responsible for multiple active jobsites providing daily management and leadership to crew; planning, budgeting, overseeing, and documenting all aspects of assigned projects including equipment and labor. Project Managers work closely with stakeholders to make sure that the scope and direction of each project is on schedule and completed per contract and reinforcing a world class safety culture. 1. Safety - In partnership with the Safety Director, implement and ensure MSHA, OSHA, USCS, Corps of Engineers safety and environmental regulation compliance along with company policy and procedures. 2. Planning: Research and analyze job plans and specifications on all assigned jobs to become the most knowledgeable about the construction components, labor and equipment needs, potential problems, hazards or safety concerns of the company’s assigned phase(s). Schedule and monitor resources during each phase. Coordinate needs in the most cost-efficient manner. Coordinate with quarry for current and future needs. Coordinate/order via purchase orders needed materials. Understand quality parameters and procedures. Closely examine costs on each project. Scrutinize each completed project, identify the lessons learned or overlooked, then incorporate the new knowledge into day-to-day operations, and future projects. Control the project schedule. Directly responsible for timely material orders to support installation. Be proactive and make certain that internal and external questions are answered quickly and clearly in order to keep the installation on schedule. 3. Project Management – Notify government/port authorities prior to starting construction activity. Request and check prior to scheduling work crews for job. Daily, on-site checks at job site to determine conditions “weather” delay notification. Prepare 3- week “look ahead” schedule on a weekly basis. Coordinate and schedule subcontractors. In partnership with Estimator, evaluate changed conditions, schedule and cost impacts. Identify extra work and notify estimators and owners of same. Attend weekly jobsite meetings onsite. Review foreman’s reports daily, discuss and follow through on any identified issues. Verify quantities of material are being accounted for and approved by owner when needed. Monitor and control the projects assigned. Ensure that all projects achieve the targeted installation goals and meet customers’ expectations. Ensure all projects are executed on time according to customer contract terms and conditions. Maintain excellent customer relations. Handle all customer correspondence related to the assigned projects. Provide reports as directed to Operations Manager, to update field efficiency improvement progress and objectives. 4. Leadership – Work with job “owner” to inform of progress, ability to complete phase of work efficiently and within timetables identified at bid. Work with superintendent to plan the phase of work, looking to maximize resources. Deliver plans and special instruction/conditions to Foreman for assigned jobs. Coordinate among peer Project Engineers, the sharing of resources so all projects are run efficiently and are complete within timetable. Visit jobs daily; communicate with foreman on progress and planning for the next workday activities. Anticipate and revise daily plan as needed. Understand union agreements and be liaison with union officials. Understand and promote development of workers. 5. Other – Strive to improve procedures and production continuously. Minimum Qualifications: |
1. Bachelors of Science Degree with a major in Civil or Ocean Engineering or a Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management. 2. Minimum 5 years project management experience. 3. Must possess a valid California Driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record that meets company fleet policy requirements. 4. Proficient in Microsoft Office. |
Preferred Qualifications |
1. Marine construction experience. 2. Survey experience. 3. Experience working with job cost/construction accounting. 4. Experience working with AutoCAD, HCSS or other estimating software. Physical Requirements: • Requires walking, bending, squatting, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree. • Heavy work-exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. • Requires the use of hands for grasping and fine manipulations. • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing. • Head movement/rotation moving head in any direction (up, down, side to side). • Requires climbing in and out of ready-mix truck multiple times a day.
