  • Development Manager/Director - Individual Giving and Events

Trinity Center for Community, a nonsectarian outreach and justice program of Trinity Church, includes a Code Blue Warming Center hosting up to 75 people overnight during winter; a holistic housing program that offers professional caseworker support, financial skills empowerment, mental health resources, recovery and wellness coaching, job and leadership training and placement; our Saturday Soup community kitchen that serves 12k meals a year; Food Pantry that distributes 284k pounds of food a year; intersectional arts and social justice programming, in partnership with Trinity Church; and advocacy at the community, county, and state levels to address homelessness, housing insecurity, poverty, and anti-racist efforts – in partnership with the church, Monmouth Housing Coalition, and other faith communities and not-for-profits.

    Job Description:

Position Title: Development Manager/Director - Individual Giving and Events
Location: Trinity Center for Community, Asbury Park, NJ
    Job Type: Part-time position
Annual Work Hours: No more than 990. Most work may be done remotely, in consultation with the Priest-in-Charge/Rector.
Proposed Compensation Package: $30,000-35,000 cash stipend, based on experience. No benefits, but eligible for cost-of-living adjustments.

    Definition:

The Trinity Center for Community is growing: Over the past 3.5 years, we have established the housing program and Code Blue Winter Warming Center, increased our hospitality to Food Pantry guests, expanded a caseworker position from part-time to full-time, and added additional part-time staff to assist with grant writing and program administration. Most of this expansion has been made possible through grant funding. We are now ready to grow our individual giving and support from the community. We have existing annual fundraising events that are quite successful, including a bike ride that raised $85,000 last year and two other events that currently raise less than $10,000 each. We believe that our fundraising potential has significant room for growth. A fundraiser with experience in individual giving will help us increase our capacity to meet the needs of our community. We are seeking someone to begin in a part-time capacity with the possibility of growing into a full-time position as our programs and funding expand.

The primary area of focus will be cultivating existing and prospective individual donors--including phone calls, digital and handwritten correspondence, general updates/newsletters, social media posts, and setting up meetings for prospective donors with the Executive Director and/or program staff. In addition to a strong focus on major gifts, the Development Manager/Director will operate with an intersectional lens to build a broad base of individual and small business donors, recognizing that leadership of people of all economic and racial backgrounds is important for building strong communities.

The Manager/Director may also from time to time be called upon to support grant writing efforts, in partnership with our part-time Development Manager for Grants. In turn, the Grants Manager is available to support this position in writing proposals for family foundations. There is also some possibility for assisting with fundraising for our ADA accessibility capital project (proposed campaign slated to start in late 2025), to make sure that guests of all ability/mobility levels will be able to access our facilities and programs.

This position reports directly to the Director of Operations, who is supervised by the Rector/Executive Director. The position collaborates closely with the Grants Manager, Social Justice Program Director, Caseworker, and parish staff of Trinity Church.

    Qualifications & Experience:

Minimum experience: Must have professional experience as a fundraiser working in the area of individual giving and events. Experience in major gifts cultivation and solicitation is desirable.

    Education: Bachelor’s Degree.

Essential skills: Must have excellent written and oral communications skills and possess strong organizational skills. Must possess a strong understanding of fundraising principles and best practices with a broad knowledge of donor cultivation and solicitation techniques. Candidate should demonstrate a proven ability to secure individual and major gifts. Must be proficient in using spreadsheets, databases, social media, and technology for mass mailings/emails. Knowledge of philanthropic individuals and foundations in Monmouth County/Jersey Shore/surrounding areas is desirable.

Position requires the successful completion of a background check and Safe Church Training. Trinity employees are expected to respect diversity and promote equity and inclusion for all people.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Educate the local Jersey Shore/Monmouth County community about the Trinity Center for Community, who it serves, its mission, and its needs. This will include seeking and setting up one-on-one meetings and informational sessions between prospective donors/community groups and the Executive Director and/or other program staff.
    • Design, develop, and implement an Individual Giving program to ensure the success of all fundraising efforts
    • Identify (through prospect research and networking), educate, cultivate and solicit donations from the Monmouth County/Jersey Shore community and the wider region with a focus on major and planned gifts from individuals and foundations/businesses.
    • Solicitation of smaller dollars and in-kind support through mail, newsletters, online, and local charity tie-ins, etc.
    • Oversee donor software and tracking systems.
    • Design and execute fundraising appeals to grow individual giving, corporate partnerships, and foundation grants.
    • Increase Trinity Center for Community’s digital fundraising and social media presence in order to increase our community profile and grow this revenue stream.
    • Organize donor recruitment, retention, and recognition efforts, including developing, cultivating, and maintaining ongoing relationships with major donors, foundations, local businesses, and corporate representatives.
    • Oversee and guide the organization and implementation of special events for fundraising.
    • Participate in the design, writing and production of promotional and solicitation materials, including emails, direct mail letters, and brochures.
    • Organize periodic social events to thank, educate and inform donors
    • Develop opportunities for community members to become involved through participatory fundraising (i.e. charitable runs, rides, tournaments, etc), events, school and civic group fundraising, open houses, campaigns, and volunteerism, as a means to stimulate donations and further awareness of the Trinity Center for Community and its work.
    • The Director/Manager will also partner as needed with the Grants Manager to work on grants from government sources and local, state-wide or national businesses and foundations with an interest in Monmouth County.

    Other responsibilities:
Participate in regular supervisory meetings with the Director of Operations.

Work towards mutually agreed upon goals set annually with the Director of Operations, in consultation with the Executive Director.

Participate in weekly staff meetings and monthly team meetings.

    Other related duties as required.

    Hours:
The Development Manager/Director shall work no more than 990 hours per year. The Development Manager must be available to work on occasional weekends and evenings as needed. Hours/availability and time off are to be determined in consultation with the Director of Operations.

    Proposed Salary:
The Development Manager/Director shall be paid an annual stipend of $30,000-35,000, based on experience. This position does not include benefits, but is eligible for cost-of-living adjustments. Subject to final vestry (Board) approval.

    Terms of Employment:
Position is at-will, and after first year, continued employment is contingent upon successful solicitation of funds at a level agreed upon by the Director of Operations and Development Manager upon hiring.

    Non-Discrimination and Diversity Policy:
Trinity Church does not permit discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, ancestry, national origin, religious creed, age, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, color, physical or mental disability, marital status, military or veteran status, or medical condition, under any program or activity under its control. Clergy and staff leading religious programs, however, are expected to be practicing Christians. In a continuing effort to enrich its spiritual and community environment and to provide employment opportunities, Trinity Church actively encourages applications from members of all groups that are under-represented in the Episcopal Church and at Trinity Church.
