Corporate Giving Director identifies and assesses the causes and organizations that align with the company's values and goals and implements strategic plans to support them. Establishes and maintains relationships with nonprofit organizations and community leaders to ensure effective collaboration and support of giving initiatives. Being a Corporate Giving Director manages the budget for charitable giving, evaluates grant proposals, and monitors the impact of the company's charitable contributions. Develops employee volunteer programs to engage employees, offer participation to wider audience, and raise awareness about the organization's charitable initiatives. Additionally, Corporate Giving Director maintains current knowledge of best practices in corporate giving and philanthropy. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The development division has been recognized with the CASE Educational Fundraising Award, an honor given each year to superior fundraising programs at educational institutions across the country.

    A. POSITION PURPOSE

    Santa Clara University is in the public phase of an ambitious comprehensive campaign. A talented and experienced fundraiser is needed to join a dynamic and collaborative Parent Giving team.

    The Associate Director will play an essential role in Santa Clara University's efforts to secure resources for its strategic funding priorities and deepen its relationships with SCU parents. In furtherance of the University's integrated strategic plan, the Associate Director designs and implements strategies for increased engagement with the University's parents at the major gift level. The Associate Director creates and executes donor cultivation plans to leverage this historic time for Santa Clara and achieve the goals of an ambitious campaign plan.

    The Associate Director reports to the Director of Parent Giving and will build and manage a portfolio of 150-200 prospective major gift donor families. He or she will lead the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects targeted for gifts between $10,000 and $1,000,000. He or she will work closely with senior University administrators and with centers of distinction or schools/colleges on campus to identify funding opportunities and develop prospect-to-donor strategies.

    The Associate Director's prospective donor portfolio is expected to span across multiple geographic regions and will require nation-wide travel. Academic fundraising priorities and regional focus for the Associate Director may change over time.

    B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Functional Area

    Develop, lead and execute solicitations to secure leadership and major gifts between $10,000 and $1,000,000 for the University. Primary focus is on parents who are not Santa Clara alumni.
    Secure and conduct personal face-to-face visits monthly to qualify, engage, solicit and steward the University's major donors and prospects.
    Lead the qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of a portfolio of high net worth prospects ensuring that each receive regular and strategic contact. Meet dollar and activity metrics set with the Director of Parent Giving.
    Lead the development of engagement and solicitation strategies for qualified major gift prospective donor families, oversee the implementation and personally drive the execution of said strategies. This includes collaborating with academic leaders, other development officers and directors of external relations to develop multi-interest proposals and promote organized and strategic outreach to our donors.
    Interact with deans, directors and/or University administrators in the form of fundraising strategy development, meeting and event attendance and written briefings as they pertain to assigned prospects and prospect development.
    Produce well-written, accurate and timely follow-up and related correspondence such as comprehensive proposals, related budgets, contact reports, cover and thank you letters, emails, reports, and briefings in support of cultivating, soliciting and stewarding assigned prospects.
    Collaborate with the Parent Giving team and Assistant Director on parent donor events. This includes events for Welcome Weekend, Family Weekend, and other regional events.
    Track and record activities as they relate to assigned prospects using Blackbaud's eCRM constituent management software and report regularly to the Director of Parent Giving.
    Participate as an active member of the Office of Development, sharing information and collaborating with colleagues in a respectful and professional manner; contributing to a healthy and positive work environment.
    Perform other duties as assigned in support of Santa Clara University's mission.
    Annual Goal to be determined with and approved by the Director of Parent Giving.

    Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals. Ensures completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions.
    Prepares and submits reports as requested and required.
    Develops and implements guidelines to support the functions of the unit.

    E. QUALIFICATIONS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The items below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and experience required or preferred.

    1. Knowledge

    Knowledge of higher education advancement and technical background preferred. Direct knowledge of successful fundraising best practices.
    Demonstrated understanding of annual, major gift, and planned giving programs, with an emphasis on personal solicitations.
    Understanding and appreciation of the mission of Santa Clara University and the vision and values of a Jesuit Catholic educational institution.

    2. Skills

    Must be a goal oriented and self-motivated individual who can demonstrate accountability, initiative, creativity and focus in a rapidly changing and intellectually stimulating environment.
    Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate, build alliances, and achieve results within a population that may possess competing interests, opinions, and /or expectations.

    Positive attitude, sense of humor and flexibility.
    Required to have a valid driver's license and personal transportation vehicle available for frequent travel to business meetings (mileage is reimbursed under federal guidelines).
    Proficiency in using fundraising databases (or similar).
    Excellent computer skills; proficiency in using advanced functions of word processing, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint, Google products, (i.e., Google docs, Gmail, etc.) database and web resources. Knowledge of CRM database a plus. Willingness to learn new software if needed.

    3. Abilities

    Demonstrate a level of comfort working and communicating with top executives, community leaders and/or University leadership. Ability to motivate, build long-term relationships with and gain the respect of internal and external clients.
    Demonstrate the ability to manage time and work load to multitask and achieve goals in a deadline driven environment.
    Demonstrate a genuine appetite to contribute to a collaborative, ethical, and professional team environment.
    Ability to work on the road and/or work at odd hours and on weekends.

    4. Education/Years of Experience

    Bachelor's degree required.
    Four to six years of related professional experience which includes three to five years of direct fundraising and/or transferrable professional experience that includes sales and/or developing relationships with high net worth clients or customers.
    Higher education experience preferred.
