*If you have a previous California BSCC Selection Exam for Adult Corrections Officer, Juvenile Corrections Officer, and Probation Officer Classifications dated within one year from June 3, 2024 and a T-Score of 42.0 or higher, please be sure to attach it as a PDF with your application. If provided with your application, you will not be required to take the written exam again.

- THURSDAY, JUNE 6, 2024:

• Oral Panel Interview
  (All applicants may be invited to the Oral Panel interview, however, please note, only those candidates who pass ALL THREE EXAMS (written, physical agility, and oral panel) will move forward in the recruitment process.

ABOUT THE JOB:

Correctional Officers perform a full range of complex tasks and work under direction within a framework of established procedures. At this level, they work with only occasional instruction or assistance.  Work is reviewed upon completion and for overall results; requires interpretation of policies, procedures and guidelines. Officers may be assigned to jail duty, bailiff duty, transportation of prisoners or the Work Release Program.  

1. Enforces facility policies and procedures; maintains inmate discipline.
2. Supervises, observes and monitors inmate activities in the facility on a continual basis; takes head counts of inmates as required.
3. Processes booking of inmates in/out of facility; completes applicable forms; secures personal property; makes photographic and fingerprinting records of incoming arrestees.
4. Ensures the general health, welfare, security and safety of inmates.
5. Maintains and controls jail supplies.
6. Takes, records and delivers inmate commissary orders, participates in the distribution of mail and the supervision of telephone usage.
7. Serves as control room, key room, and visitation room officer.
8. Transports inmates to/from courts, state institutions, other jails, hospitals or elsewhere as directed.
9. Watches video monitor to assure facility security; makes rounds of facility to maintain security; checks locks, alarms and other security devices.
10. Searches inmates, mail, cells, or other jail facilities to locate/remove contraband.
11. Assists with conducting searches for escapees.
12. Assists officers in restraining violent/unruly arrestees.
13. Processes dispositions on warrants and warrants for booking.

1. Serves at the pleasure and direction of the various courts.
2. Consults with the judge to review court calendar or exchange other information.
3. Maintains a security presence in the courtroom to ensure safety of court personnel, to identify/prevent disturbances of court proceedings, and to identify/prevent potential violence or use of weapons.
4. Prepares and/or reviews court calendars.
5. Escorts inmates to/from court appearances; oversees the custody and care of inmates present in court.
6. Calls the court to order; seats the jury and witnesses.
7. Provides security for care and safety of the jury.
8. Performs security checks of court buildings and facilities.
9. Performs various errands as needed.

1. Coordinates all aspects of the inmate work release program with Sheriff's Department staff.
2. Enforces all rules and conditions related to the work release program.
3. Schedules, arranges, and assists in the selection of work project sites; determines project priority based on program criteria; tours job sites; evaluates safety of site; prepares training sites.
4. Screens, determines eligibility of, and recommends inmates for participation in the work release program; assigns work locations based on inmate capability.
5. Coordinates transportation, equipment and supplies required by the program.
6. Supervises, trains, and directs inmates on work release; evaluates the work performance of inmates assigned to the program.
7. Directly responsible for the care, custody and control of all inmates, equipment, and vehicles assigned to the program during working hours.
8. Supervises operation of grounds maintenance equipment utilized by inmates.
9. Contacts inmates by phone or at home to follow up on failure to report for work.
10. Coordinates use/rental of sheriff's training center by approved groups.
11. Maintains equipment, building, posse arena, and firing range, performing minor repairs.

1. Operates a computer to enter, modify and review data.
2. Prepares and/or generates various forms and documentation.
3. Reviews various documentation and processes, forwards, or takes other action as appropriate.
4. Maintains departmental records.
5. Communicates via telephone and two-way radio, provides information, takes messages and/or directs calls as appropriate.
6. Responds to requests for information or assistance.
