Correctional Officer enforces rules and regulations in a prison, jail or other holding facility. Presides over prisoners awaiting trial or those who have been convicted of a crime. Being a Correctional Officer oversees prisoner conduct and safety. Supervises prisoners during meals, recreation, work and other daily activities. Additionally, Correctional Officer documents violations and takes appropriate disciplinary actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Correctional Officer possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Info: This is an entry level position that requires successful completion of the Correctional Training Academy. This position is uniformed and will require supervision and monitoring of inmates in housing units and inmates assigned to special confinement. There are some assignments and post that may require supervision outside of confined areas.
Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age and a high school graduate or GED. The individual applying must be able to provide documentation of being a US citizen or Resident Alien. Upon employment offer, applicants will be subject to a criminal background check, pre-employment drug testing, physical exam and psychological evaluation. Law enforcement and Corrections experience of 1 year preferred but not required. Mus posess valid driver's license.
