Correctional Officer, Sr. enforces rules and regulations in a prison, jail or other holding facility. Presides over prisoners awaiting trial or those who have been convicted of a crime. Being a Correctional Officer, Sr. oversees prisoner conduct and safety. Supervises prisoners during meals, recreation, work and other daily activities. Additionally, Correctional Officer, Sr. documents violations and takes appropriate disciplinary actions. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Firearms Certification. McKean County is accepting applications for Part-Time Correctional Officers. Responsibilities include maintaining the security of the McKean County Prison while preserving order to ensure the safety and welfare of staff, visitors, and inmates. Essential Job Functions include but are not limited to the following key roles:
•Supervises inmates by communicating clear expectations, positive reinforcement, and accountability while being respectful and considerate. Serves as a role model and encourages inmates to accept responsibility for themselves and their actions.
•Utilizes physical abilities to restrain, protect, defend one’s self, and give chase when necessary.
•Effectively and coherently uses interpersonal skills to communicate with inmates, professional visitors, and the public by providing information and directions, mediating disputes, and advising of rights and processes.
•Provides security checks and searches of people, mail items, objects capable of concealing contraband, buildings, vehicles, and large outdoor areas. Such searches may involve feeling and detecting objects; bending, crouching, or stooping; and standing or walking for extended periods of time.
