Correctional Officer, Sr. enforces rules and regulations in a prison, jail or other holding facility. Presides over prisoners awaiting trial or those who have been convicted of a crime. Being a Correctional Officer, Sr. oversees prisoner conduct and safety. Supervises prisoners during meals, recreation, work and other daily activities. Additionally, Correctional Officer, Sr. documents violations and takes appropriate disciplinary actions. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Firearms Certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Correctional Officer, Sr. works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Starting pay: $20.32/hr; $1.00/hr night shift differential; Paid bi-weekly
Bonus: $3,000 retention bonus (3 increments over 12 months)
Work schedule: Full time; 12 hours (day & night); 3 days one week/4 days; Every other weekend off (excluding overtime)
Position summary: Correctional officers are responsible for the custody, care and discipline of offenders as well as maintaining order and discipline among inmates. If assigned to the transportation department, one is responsible for the transporting of offenders to and from the facility in accordance with established procedures.
