Correctional Officer, Sr. enforces rules and regulations in a prison, jail or other holding facility. Presides over prisoners awaiting trial or those who have been convicted of a crime. Being a Correctional Officer, Sr. oversees prisoner conduct and safety. Supervises prisoners during meals, recreation, work and other daily activities. Additionally, Correctional Officer, Sr. documents violations and takes appropriate disciplinary actions. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Firearms Certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Correctional Officer, Sr. works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     The FDC is the third largest state corrections system in the US and the largest state agency in Florida. The Department has twenty-five thousand authorized positions, 80 percent of which are in either Certified Correctional Officers or probation officers.

    No experience is necessary to apply, and all training is provided.

    Compensation: $22 hourly based on a standard 8.5-hour shift schedule

    Correctional Officers are responsible for the supervision, care, custody, control, and physical restraint, when necessary, of inmates in a Correctional Institution or facility.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Be at least 18 years of age (no maximum age restriction)
    • Be a United States Citizen
    • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
    • Possess a valid driver’s license
    • Not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, nor have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. Any person who, after July 1, 1981, pleads guilty or nolo contendere to or is found guilty of a felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement shall not be eligible for employment or appointment as an officer, notwithstanding suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication.
    • Pass a medical examination and drug test.
    • Have a good moral character as determined by a background investigation.
