The General Accountant is a supporting role within the fiscal department and is responsible for a wide range of functions. The position will operate in accordance with the college’s policies and procedures. This position will be a part of implementing new processes to support the College’s growth and mission.
- Duties and Responsibilities
- Providing support to student billing, including analyzing student charges and putting together reports with respects to Veteran Affairs (VA), Third Party, and College Credit Plus (CCP) Billing
- Providing support to payroll function, including input of new employees, following up with managers regarding payroll exceptions and necessary approvals.
- Reconcilement of insurance billing to payroll reports
- Supporting fixed assets and inventory control functions
- Providing support for annual audit
- General ledger journal entries
- Entering new vendors, new requisitions, and generating purchase orders.
- Supporting the cashiers department by taking payments, posting charges, and providing customer service to students.
- General bookkeeping as required by the department
- Ensuring adherence to College’s budget, policies, and procedures
- Recommending improvements to the College’s processes and procedures and work with manager to implement improvements.
- Provide additional support to the fiscal office as needed, including: accounts payable, purchasing, accounts receivable, budgeting, and reporting.
- Provide confidential information for bargaining unit contract negotiations
- Other duties as assigned
- Qualifications – Education, Experience, and Skills
- Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required. Bachelor’s Degree or ability to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Accounting work experience preferred, preferably in the public sector
- Accurate and thorough in completing tasks
- Attention to detail
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- High level of integrity
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Knowledge of general accounting principles
- Proficient in technology related to the field
