Summary

This position is responsible for ensuring the accurate accounting and financial reporting of leases (lessor & lessee) and fixed assets. The incumbent will be responsible for preparing journal entries, reviewing and analyzing accounting transactions, and assist with the preparation of audited financial statements and disclosures, with an emphasis on leases and fixed assets.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• All activities related to the proper accounting and financial reporting of leases in accordance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board, Statement No. 87 – Leases.
• Review lease procurement contracts and purchase orders to ensure proper accounting treatment.
• Prepare annual composite of leased vehicles for financial reporting in accordance with GASB 87.
• Record monthly rental revenue and resolve reconciling items between agency records and Yardi reports.
• Coordinate with procurement, business operations, MTA Real Estate, IT for MTA, Yardi systems, and Greystone.
• Ensure Fixed Assets are capitalized and depreciated in accordance with GAAP, GASB and agencies’ policy.
• Prepare timely and accurate expense accruals for reimbursable projects.
• Maintain a reconciliation of Operating Funded Capital (OFC) project balances and Vehicle Fleet purchases.
• Work with project managers for project status to determine if capitalization criteria have been met.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly and annual journal entries of lease and fixed asset accounting transaction activities.
• Prepare a quarterly Rollfoward of Capital Assets for financial reporting.
• Perform monthly and quarterly account analysis.
• Assist with annual issuance of the audited financial statements, including prepare required footnotes, supporting schedules and account analysis required for financial reporting.
• Provide information as needed for internal and external audits.
• Supervise staff, manage team workload, and provide training and support to develop team members
• Other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Minimum of 5 years general accounting experience (or demonstrated equivalent).
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and processes.
• Effective written, interpersonal and oral communications skills.
• Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in the use of personal computer software applications (Word, Excel, and Access) and PeopleSoft.
• Strong work ethic and professional integrity.

• MBA Degree/CPA.
• Prior auditing and supervisory experience.
• Working knowledge of LIRR financial operations.
• Familiarity with the TCU collective bargaining agreements.

Other Information

In addition to meeting the minimum requirements of the position, the selection process may include, but is not limited to a pre-screening assessment (i.e., physical, written and/ or practical evaluation) and interview.
