Joseph M Sanzari, Inc. is a Highway and Heavy Construction Company based out of Hackensack, NJ. JMS specializes in site work, heavy highway, and bridgework, as well as provides demolition, installation, and maintenance services.

We are seeking a Job Cost Accountant to join our Accounting Department. This is a great opportunity for an individual who has 3-8 years with civil construction accounting experience along with a positive attitude and eagerness to learn more. The ideal candidate will be driven, works well with others and hard-working. This is an in-person position that works from our Hackensack office and periodic visits to job site offices when necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

• Understand cost overruns and over/under billings on projects and be able to articulate to field personnel and management what the reasons and resolutions are for the overruns and under billings
• Reach out to PMs and PEs for monthly quantities and ensure we are billing for all costs timely and properly.
• Track extra work authorizations and alert the PM and Estimator if work is being performed without the proper client authorization.
• Review cost reports for job cost accuracy. Research and note any variance from the most current budget. Complete cost code audits as necessary to verify correct job costs.
• Review job correspondence and note any billing or cost related issues.
• Review job progress on a monthly basis with field personnel.
• Obtain subcontract progress billing information and accurately accrue subcontract payables by receiving against purchase orders. Verify sub quantity billed against revenue quantity billed
• Assist Project Managers with subcontractor change orders
• Each month meet with management and field personnel to forecast projected final revenue and cost in WIP meetings.
• Research and verify incoming change orders and reconcile contract revenue on a monthly basis and confirm with Project Manager
• Record job cost reclassifications as needed following analysis of job cost reports and transactions.
• Review Equipment postings with Asset Manager
• Expedite the process with Project Teams for invoice approvals through Timberscan
• Job cost flow projections
• Work with Contract Analysis and key metrics reported on the Analysis.

Desired Qualifications:

• Required Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• Required minimum 3 years’ experience in Construction Accounting
• Must be proficient in Excel.
• Preferred experience with Sage CRE 300 (Timberline), Timberscan and hh2
• Requires good oral communication skills to communicate effectively with clients, employees, management and outside vendors.
• Requires concentration, alertness, and attention to detail.
• Requires the ability to work with others under minimal supervision.
• Must be able to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions and procedures.
• Must be able to work under pressure and adapt to changing conditions.
• Must be able to work with others and be a team player.
• Duties are varied and regularly require analysis, judgment and discretion. Must be able to prioritize work.
• Must present a courteous, efficient and professional demeanor, even under stressful situations.
• Must possess excellent organizational abilities.
• Must be able to commute to Hackensack office for in-person position.
