    Benefits to you

    • We pay 95% to 99% of medical insurance premiums for full-time employees, including mental health coverage.
    • The hourly equivalent for this position is $21.74 - $33.74.
    • 10 paid holidays, 2 floating holidays, 3 personal business days, separate sick and vacation paid leaves (prorated for part-time employees), and other employee benefits such as optional insurances and flexible spending plans.
    • OJD will pay you a 5% allowance for bilingual skills (includes ASL) if you can pass a skills test and are assigned to use those skills on the job!
    • In this job profile, we offer candidates new to OJD the first step of the salary range. You are potentially eligible for a 5% annual increase.

    Position Highlights

    The Wasco County Circuit Court in The Dalles, Oregon, is hiring a Records Clerk/Traffic Clerk/Cashier (Court Operations Clerk) for case records processing, general accounting, record requests, and miscellaneous office work.

    Most of your day will be spent processing records requests, scanning case files into our computer system, and performing quality control checks on previously scanned case files. While you are working on these projects, you will also need to be available and able to provide customer service to judges, court staff, attorneys, litigants, agencies, and the public. You will answer questions about court calendars and the status of traffic, violation, and small claims cases. You will suspend or clear suspensions on drivers’ licenses and will determine if offenders are eligible for reduced fines or diversion programs. You will handle these matters in person and over the phone as needed.

    Additionally, you will review and verify information, route and deliver papers, process incoming mail, and file and copy documents. As a cashier, you will accept and receipt payments, verify and balance the cash drawer, maintain an updated knowledge of the fee schedules and rules, and submit information and funds to the deposit clerk for the daily bank deposit.

    You will also collaborate with coworkers for court operations.

    Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.

    Minimum Qualifications

    The qualified candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

    At least one (1) year of responsible clerical experience in a moderately complex office or business setting.

    Any combination of education and experience equivalent to one (1) year of experience that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.

    • Experience with clerical or administrative support in a business or professional environment.
    • Experience using a variety of software programs to manage data and complete various tasks.

    • Skill in writing and reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness.
    • Experience handling cash or other monetary transactions, generating receipts, and crediting accounts.

    Working Conditions

    • This is a full-time position, and the work schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 per work week.
    • Occasional after-hours or overtime work may be required.
    • Occasional travel to nearby counties will be required.
    • Frequent interruptions, time constraints, and conflicting requests.
    • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds.
    • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people who may be facing challenging life circumstances, highly stressful situations, or trauma.
    • Long periods of sitting or standing at a computer.
    • Regular use of the following equipment: telephone, OJD-assigned computer with multiple monitors, copy machine, fax machine, and scanner.
