Juvenile Court Diversion Counselor
  • Greene County Juvenile Court

  • 1. Establish individual case plans including the development of achievable and measurable goals; conduct and/or refer for risk and needs assessment; refer youth to community services based on needs assessment; conduct Diversion Hearings; monitor case plans regarding data collection, progress reporting, client contact, orientation and provision of incentives; maintain case files via court case-management software system; maintain case files and confidentiality of records in accordance with applicable law; provide prevention education and training to parents and students; interact with youth and families in a positive manner in the court, school and home setting; conduct Diversion Review Meetings with youth and family, including intake meetings; request warrant for missing/run-away youth; collect and test urine samples; intervene and direct crisis intervention pursuant to policy and training; mediate disputes; facilitate Diversion program completion and transition.

    2. Ensure the organization and its mission, programs and services present a positive image in the community; act as liaison with the public, other youth service agencies including the Ohio Department of Youth Services, court officials, mental health practitioners, social services workers, medical personnel, university personnel, parents/guardians, students, case workers, school officials, law enforcement and the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office; deliver presentations to tour groups; attend court hearings; support development of agency promotional materials; promote and maintain efforts to raise awareness about the program’s activities; implement measures to determine and respond to clientele satisfaction; serve as a resource in connecting to community resources.

    3. : Track and analyze program data; enter data into information systems; maintain logs, charts and statistical information; enter case and grant data into software programs; generate additional reports, as needed; assist with program monitoring by the Ohio Department of Youth Services, including site reviews, pre and post measures and annual audits; evaluate program service and delivery; formulate annual goals; advocate for program development and engage to effect program improvements; ensure safety and hygiene of work environment.

    5. : Ensure safety, health and security standards are upheld at all times; observe and report illness or injury; observe and report signs of abuse, neglect and/or human trafficking; administer CPR/first aid; escort youth to and from different areas of the facility; employ verbal intervention techniques pursuant to crisis prevention training.

    6. Participate in interviews of candidates for open positions; train new hires; provide supervision of interns.

    7. : Assist Court Security Department in collection of adult urine samples; research; policy review; cross-training, special events; special projects.

    8. : Access court case management system in real time during Assessment Team Meetings; receive and screen delinquency, truancy and in-person unruly complaints, filings and notices pursuant to established criteria; facilitate communication with and between law enforcement, attorneys, court staff, school personnel, the public and other community agencies including answering the phone, video-conferencing and e-mail correspondence; type correspondence and documents including notices, letters and reports; type, address and mail letters and reports including logging, tracking and forwarding; manage court case-management software system; establish new case folders; assign case numbers; review and cross-reference documents/correspondence; seal and expunge case records.

    Public relations; program development; criminology and juvenile delinquency; juvenile rights; communication skills; time management skills; organization skills; accurate and neat record-keeping; general office practices and procedures; ability to work independently; personal computer and software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Zoom, Pro-Ware); office equipment including but not limited to fax, phone, computers and copiers; recognition and effective response to unusual or threatening conditions; effective response in crisis situations pursuant to training; maintenance of positive relationships with youth, co-workers and the general public; physical fitness; presentation to public, tour groups and/or professional personnel in court settings; application of cognitive-behavioral interventions including behavior reinforcement/effective punishment and cognitive re-structuring techniques; role model for at-risk youth modeling pro-social behavior; high degree of discretion dealing with confidential information; ability to make difficult decisions; represent the organization/appointing authority in a positive manner in the community.

    Minimum Requirements:

    Associates and/or Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Sociology, Childhood Development, humanities or related field or any combination of education and professional experience commensurate with a degree; two years of experience in juvenile court or related field working with youth and families in an organized setting or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience with youth and/or juvenile offenders sufficient to perform the job duties as listed above; written and oral communication skills; satisfactory completion of physical examination (if needed) resulting in finding of physical health adequate to perform the required functions of the job; satisfactory completion of professional references check; satisfactory completion of criminal background check; satisfactory completion of Ohio Attorney General Offender Search; affirmative duty to report prior and/or current misconduct; confirmation of valid Ohio driver’s license; confirmation of degrees, licenses and/or certificates.

    Pay: $18.51 - $22.29 per hour
