    Description
    The Department of Criminal investigations (DCI) investigates a diversity of criminal allegations, which include but are not limited to, sex and labor trafficking; Investigations of allegations of criminal misconduct by state and local public officials, as well as, the misuse of theft of public funds.

    Investigations may include arenas of corruption including executive, judicial, legislative, vendor contract, regulatory, election fraud and systemic law enforcement corruption.

    As an Investigator II, you will carry a special position of trust and will be expected to conduct yourselves and work in accordance with standards set forth in the Office of Attorney General policies and guidelines, and to operate within the applicable statutes and regulations.

    Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
    • Conducts investigations of highly complex time-consuming and sensitive criminal and non-criminal investigations
    • Interviews suspects and witnesses
    • Secures and serves warrants and summonses
    • Conducts surveillance and makes arrests
    • Testifies in court proceedings
    Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
    • Required to carry and/or use a firearm
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Ability to produce quality written reports
    • Ability to assimilate large volumes of information in order to successfully investigate complicated and multifaceted white-collar cases
    Minimum Requirements
    EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.


    EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have four years experience in the field of investigative law enforcement or a related field of investigation.


    Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE


    Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience as a sworn law enforcement officer will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.


    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 21 years of age. Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Employees in this classification are subject to the provisions of KRS Chapter 15 and 503 KAR 1:140 relating to peace officer certification as administered by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council. For additional information please refer to: Kentucky Revised Statutes - Chapter 15 503 Chapter 1 Regulation 140 Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.     Working Conditions
    May work irregular hours due to nature of investigative work. Will be required to travel in the course of investigations. May be exposed to dangerous situations and makes physical arrests. Works in all types of weather.
    Probationary Period
    This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
