CRE Credit Risk Officer

  • Amalgamated Bank is seeking a CRE Credit Risk Officer reporting to the Head of Credit for CRE. The role primarily functions in a second line of defense capacity performing credit analysis/review for commercial real estate projects and borrower entities for CRE originations and criticized assets.

     

    Essential Job Functions:

    Credit Analysis Activities review of Credit Approval Memoranda (CAM) submitted by CRE Lending for various classes of commercial real estate, which includes:

    1. Research on borrowers, tenants, geographic markets, asset classes and industries  
    2. Review of borrower and property financial information, including analysis of corporate financial statements, tax returns, credit report, personal financial statements, real estate owned schedule, rent rolls, lease agreements, historical income and expense statements  
    3. Review cashflow spreads and DSCR determination presented by Underwriting 
    4. Review the risk rating presented by Underwriting for appropriateness to be discussed with Head of Credit for CRE  
    5. Review of third-party reports including commercial real estate appraisals, environmental reports, and property condition reports  
    6. Work with the Relationship Managers to obtain missing and necessary information to underwrite the credit request  
    7. Determine due diligence requirements and conditions to close that will be forwarded to Loan Closing  
    8. Prepare comments of CAM to be reviewed by the Head of Credit for CRE lending
    9. Conduct review of certain diligence items during the closing process

     

    Portfolio Management (PM) PM activity is for both the performing loans and watch list loans.   Responsibilities include:

    1. Perform review of Annual Credit Reviews prepared by the Portfolio Management Group  
    2. Perform property inspections as required under the Bank’s Credit Policy  
    3. Review memoranda for release of reserves, draw requests, and maturity extensions  
    4. Prepare quarterly impairment analyses as required under ASC 310  
    5. Review TDR worksheets   
    6. Handle specific loans in work-out

     

    Day to Day Prioritize and operate in a multi-tasked and geographically dispersed environment both independently and expediently:

    1. Ensure adherence to Credit Policies and all related administrative procedures and discuss with Head of Credit for CRE 
    2. Communicate directly with CRE Lending on items mentioned above   
    3. Provide input on strategy and process efficiency to the Head of Credit for CRE
    4. Perform other duties as directed.


    Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements:

    1. Bachelor’s degree; master’s degree a plus
    2. High degree of knowledge within the NYC Metro market on core CRE assets classes
    3. Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in CRE credit analysis, underwriting, and workouts including non-specialty CRE asset classes and borrowers
    4. Formal credit training highly desired
    5. Commercial real estate appraisal license/experience a plus
    6. Experience with Collateral 360 a plus
    7. Familiarity with Mid-Atlantic and California CRE markets a plus
    8. High degree of proficiency with financial modeling
    9. High degree of proficiency of Microsoft Word and Excel
    10. Experience reviewing Environmental and Property Conditions reports
    11. Experienced in reading, simulating and sensitizing rent rolls and analyzing property cash flows
    12. Excellent financial analysis skills
    13. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills


    Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base salary for this role is between $120,000.00 – $145,000.00. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferrable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
