    The Cultural Collections Cleaning Specialist is responsible for the daily cleaning and maintenance of the museum’s permanent and temporary exhibit galleries. This role ensures the safety, preservation, and aesthetic appeal of displayed objects and exhibit spaces. 

    Responsibilities

    • Regularly cleans and maintains all aspects of the museum exhibit areas, including outdoor exhibit areas.
    • Cleans and maintains all exhibit casework, while ensuring the safety and preservation of displayed objects.
    • Cleans and upkeeps all decorative elements to maintain the aesthetic appeal of exhibits.
    • Performs routine maintenance and troubleshooting of electronic displays, ensuring optimal functionality.
    • Cleans gallery floors to remove all dirt, stains, scuff marks, grime, etc.
    • Maintains and cleans exhibits and light fixtures.
    • Maintains and cleans doorways and graphic elements, ensuring a welcome and informative environment.
    • Cleans and upkeeps reader rails and seating areas for visitors.
    • Performs maintenance and cleans classrooms and meeting spaces, providing a clean and conductive learning environment.
    • Uses cleaning agents properly and as directed.
    • Protects Team Members and museum guests from the work area during cleaning process by properly clearing and designating the area i.e., removing furniture, setting up appropriate barricades etc.
    • Notifies Museum Operations Manager when any unsafe, unsanitary, or defective condition is detected.
    • Upholds a work environment that promotes teamwork, partnership, recognition, mutual respect, and collaboration, while role modeling the company values, behaviors, and culture of One.Team.Chumash.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
    • Experience in cleaning and maintenance, preferably in a museum or similar environment or completion of an ISSA Custodial Technician course.
    • Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and safety procedures.
    • Must be capable of operating cleaning machines and equipment.
    • Must possess basic mechanical knowledge and ability.
    • Basic computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft applications, e-mail, and internet.
    • Willingness to work flexible schedules, including holidays, nights, and weekends.
    • Native American hiring preference applies.
