Credit and Collections Director leads the overall credit function. Designs and implements processes to improve cash flow and reduce receivables. Being a Credit and Collections Director develops policies regarding the investigation of customers, extension of credit lines, and collections. Consults with current and future clients regarding their level of credit. Additionally, Credit and Collections Director oversees the negotiation and course of action taken for overdue accounts. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Credit and Collections Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Credit and Collections Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     The Day to Day as a Collections Consultant

    Collections Consultants are responsible for notifying or locating members with delinquent accounts and attempting to secure payment.  A typical day will look like:

    • Assisting in the collection and recovery of funds owed to Scott Credit Union, and seeing that members maintain adequate insurance coverage on the collateral
    • Mailing form letters to members to encourage payment of delinquent and overdrawn accounts
    • Conferring with members by telephone in attempt to determine reason for overdue payment and reviewing terms of repayment
    • Conducting inbound and outbound calls while maintaining call ques
    • Negotiating repayment plans
    • Recording information about financial status of members and status of collection efforts
    • Suggesting repossession or credit privilege cessation, or turning over account to Collections management for further action
    • Sorting and filing correspondences
    • Skip tracing members to new addresses by inquiring at post office, questioning individuals who may have information about the members’ whereabouts, and other skip tracing processes
    • Contacting members with insufficient or no insurance on the collateral to obtain required insurance coverage or to recommend repossession or exceptions to Scott Credit Union requirement
    • Receiving payments and posting amount paid to members’ accounts when received from an insurance company
    • Acting as liaison between Collections and SCU insurance company
    • Assisting in preparing monthly reports for the Board and Senior Management
    • Working as a team to achieve department goals

    • A High School Diploma or GED
    • One year of experience working in a Collections, Call Center, or Customer Service environment
    • Personal computer experience, including Microsoft Office products

    Preferred Qualifications That Could Set You Ahead:

    • Delinquent mortgage account knowledge

    Pay Range/Salary Range:

    • The typical pay range for this role is $18.00 to $23.50 per hour.
