Credit and Collections Manager develops and administers credit and collection programs. Oversees investigation of credit risk in customers and suppliers and advises on course of action for credit applications. Being a Credit and Collections Manager designs and implements processes to improve cash flow and reduce receivables. Monitors and negotiates the collection of overdue accounts. Additionally, Credit and Collections Manager monitors credit and collection processes and operations; makes recommendations on opportunities for improvement. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Credit and Collections Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Credit and Collections Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     The Collections Manager will be responsible for directing and controlling all operations of the Collections Department. This position will oversee all collections functions and assist in solving difficult and complex member account situations. Additionally they will train, direct, and appraise direct reports. Responsible for collateral, repossessions, and the disposition of repossessed Credit Union assets. Perform periodic evaluation of collections policies and procedures and modify as needed and ensure that established policies, procedures, and legal requirements are followed. Ensure that services are delivered professionally and efficiently.

    Requirements

    • Ensure that collections actions are thoroughly documented. Ensure accurate accounting for collection of accounts that are charged off. Ensure delinquent loans are promptly addressed and resolved. Appropriate and timely legal actions are initiated. Delinquency/collection ratios that meet management standards are maintained.
    • Lead the Collections team, ensuring production goals are met or exceeded. Evaluate and report team performance and productivity through the development and maintenance of reporting tools. Instill a culture of accountability by setting clear expectations, measuring results, and coaching team members to create bench strength from which future leaders can be drawn.
    • Responsible for the implementation of Collections Department policies, procedures and planning and ensuring Collections functions are effectively and efficiently performed in accordance with established Credit Union policies and procedures and with related legal requirements.
    • Ensure that requests, questions, and problems are courteously and professionally resolved. Ensure that communications are effective and efficient. Discuss possible financial arrangements, inform members of possible legal actions, and provide or suggest financial counseling as means to arrive at suitable payment arrangements.
    • Responses for charge-offs, repossessions, foreclosures, complex and sensitive collections activities, and various court collections actions.
    • Ensure professional business relations exist with related agencies, organizations, institutions, and problem borrowers. Members are appropriately assisted in resolving their problems. The Credit Union is professionally represented in all business and legal matters.
    • Ensure required collections documentation, reports, and records are complete, accurate, and timely. Management is appropriately informed.

    Qualifications:   

    • Three to five years of similar or related experience in Collections. 
    • 1-3 years of experience in management.
    • Bachelor’s degree in finance/related field or an equivalent combination of formal training and experience.  
    • Previous experience with financial institutions.
