SALARY: The hourly rate for this position is $20.00.
This position is limited to a maximum of 35 hours per week, not to exceed 944 hours in a fiscal year.

The Judiciary is seeking individuals with strong communication and organizational skills for a paid internship opportunity. The intern will perform a variety of administrative, customer service, and supportive tasks in the case management and records departments of the Ocean County's Superior Court Criminal Division. The intern will gain a broad insight and knowledge of the court system, including criminal case management process, criminal court proceedings, interviewing defendants, calendar management, etc.
This position does not qualify for remote work under the Judiciary's Remote Work Policy, and therefore requires on-site presence.
Please note: A candidate who can commit to 14 hours per week and an internship of at least 4 months is preferred.
- Providing customer service- greet and assist court users, answer phones, return and distribute voicemails.
- Conducting Research- assist probation officers researching criminal case histories and collecting information from other agencies. Follow up with treatment providers.
- Participating in client interviews and court proceedings- observe probation officers conducting pre-sentence and pretrial intervention interviews, attend court events.
- Performing administrative functions- prepare filings for judges and staff, provide documents to chambers, assist with calendars, conduct e-filing and document upload.
- Performing computer related work- collect and enter data in the various systems, draft correspondence, etc.
- Performing Special Projects- assist staff as directed, participate in backlog reduction plans, archiving project, etc.
Thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree.
Unofficial College or University transcript must be included in your application in order to be considered.Physical Ability: For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching. The selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
Driver's License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.

Residency Law: In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need.
