  • This vacancy is located in the Bureau of Investigation Section in the Office of State Police and may be domiciled within any parish statewide as needed.  This posting may be used to fill a probational appointment or job appointment.

    As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Criminal Investigator 1 or a Criminal Investigator 2 on the level of experience of the selected applicant.

    The Criminal Investigator 1 (pay grade level PS-112) has a minimum salary of $1,764.80./bi-weekly; $3,824.00/monthly.


    The Criminal Investigator 2 (pay grade level PS-113) has a minimum salary of $1,888.00/bi-weekly; $4,091.00/monthly.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    Two years of experience in law enforcement, investigatory work or military intelligence work.
     
    SUBSTITUTIONS:
    College training which included six semester hours per year in law enforcement or criminal justice will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.
     
    An associate degree in law enforcement or criminal justice will substitute for all of the required experience.
     
    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Must be eighteen years old at time of application.
     
    An applicant will be disqualified if he or she has been convicted of a felony or if there are any indictments or bills of information pending against him or her in which felony charges are included; or if he or she has been convicted within the past three years of hit and run or driving while intoxicated.
     
    A drug screen will be administered prior to employment.
     
    May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at the time of appointment.
     
    Required to attend and pass a Police Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification school.
     
    Some P.O.S.T. certification schools require the passing of a physical examination.
     
    NOTE:
    Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

     FUNCTION OF WORK:

    To conduct criminal, administrative, and regulatory investigations; and conduct surveillance of known and suspected criminal targets for purposes of intelligence gathering and investigation.

    General from a Criminal Investigator 4, higher level law enforcement officer.
     
    SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
    None. 

    LOCATION OF WORK:
    Department of Public Safety & Corrections, Office of the State Inspector General, Department of Environmental Quality. 

    JOB DISTINCTIONS:
    Differs from other related investigative jobs by specialization intelligence gathering, or assignment to a federal task force with a law enforcement purpose, or assignment to conduct highly sensitive or complex investigations requiring the application of advanced investigative techniques.

    Differs from the Criminal Investigator 2 by the absence of full performance of duties at the experienced level.
