    Description

Then you might be the perfect fit as a Public Advocate Investigator II in the Paducah Trial Office of the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy.

    The Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy is the Commonwealth’s largest criminal defense firm, and is tasked with representing underprivileged people who are charged with both felonies and misdemeanors. The ideal candidate for this position will have strong planning and organization skills. Strong communication skills (both verbal and written), ability to work in a team environment, and attention to detail are crucial. Compassion for our clients and commitment to our mission are musts.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Conducts investigations on behalf of our attorneys and our clients.
    • Locates and interviews clients, witnesses, and prospective witnesses.
    • Conducts background searches.
    • Serves Subpoenas.
    • Prepares exhibits and assists with juror information and during trial as needed.
    • Searches for, preserves, and transmits physical evidence for examination.
    • Testifies in trials and hearings as needed.
    • Locates and obtains documents.
    • Writes reports and memorandum.
    • Assists the team in formulation of the defense theory.
    • Attends training sessions and assists in training other staff members as requested.
    • Other duties as assigned or needed.
    Minimum Requirements
    EDUCATION: High school graduate.

    EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years experience in law enforcement, general investigation or a related field of investigation.

    Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Completion of 54 semester hours at a college or university will substitute for two years of the required experience; OR a bachelor's degree from a college or university will substitute for the required experience.

    Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Eighteen months of experience as a public advocate investigator will substitute for the required experience.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
    Working Conditions
    Interviews are often conducted in prisons, low-income housing and unfamiliar or confrontational settings. May work irregular hours due to nature of investigative work. Extensive travel is required.
    Probationary Period
    This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
