    The Department of Criminal Justice at Oakland City University, a Christian faith-based liberal arts institution, is searching for a full-time Lecturer/Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice for Fall 2024 who can support program growth, provide leadership and curricular programming, and teach across all areas of the Department of Criminal Justice program. This teaching position includes key responsibilities in instruction, advisement, assessment, and evaluation. The faculty member also will assist other instructors within the Criminal Justice program in collaboration with the Dean of Arts and Sciences and other relevant staff.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or master’s degree in a closely related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in Criminal Justice.
    • Evidence for effective teaching, with the ability to teach a variety of Criminal Justice courses.

    Preferred:

    • Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or a closely related field with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Criminal Justice, or a Doctorate (Doctor of Arts, Doctor of Education, Doctor of Science) in a closely related field with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Criminal Justice. Candidates who are ABD will be considered if they are close to completion.
    • Minimum of three years of professional experience in a Criminal Justice field or higher education experience; field experience in law enforcement preferred.

    Essential Functions

    The successful candidate will meet/perform the following essential roles/functions:

    • Support teaching 12 credit hours per semester in introductory and upper-level Criminal Justice courses for a diverse array of students.
    • Advise students majoring in Criminal Justice and sponsor the Criminal Justice Club.
    • Coordinate course development and assess student learning outcomes that are tied to program learning outcomes.
    • Promote professional and community service.
    • Represent the Criminal Justice program to other groups and professional organizations.
    • Participate in research towards advancing the subject knowledge and in faculty meetings.
    • Maintain awareness of emerging Criminal Justice research, trends, and issues.
    • Participate in faculty professional development and other school and university initiatives.
    • Promote professional and ethical conduct that enhances teaching and learning and the general reputation of the University.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Arts and Sciences.
