4 Hours/Day, 10-Month Work Year
Reports to Supervisor of Transportation
WCPS is offering 2% additional compensation to new, eligible employees in addition to base salaries for the 2022-2023 school year.
Minimum Requirements
Have the ability to make appropriate decisions in emergency situations.
Demonstrates an ability to work with school age children.
Satisfactorily completes the requirements of the pre-service training program.
Regular and predictable attendance which is an essential function of this position.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Role Responsibilities
The primary duty of School Crossing Guards is to supervise the safe crossing of school children at designated crossing areas. The purpose is achieved by:
Directing school children to cross the street without unreasonable delay when crossing is safe.
Controlling vehicular traffic as necessary and consistent with the safety of all concerned to assure a safe crossing of school children.
Informing motorists, through appropriate hand signals, that school children are about to use the crossing and have the right-of-way.
Reporting motorists who fail to comply with provisions of the law governing the movement of vehicular traffic.
Maintain and uphold the highest standard of personal conduct and appearance while carrying out the responsibilities of their position.
Maintain the uniform in a neat, clean and well maintained condition.
Guards are expected to be on their posts each day that school is in session.
Crossing Guards will at all times maintain a polite and courteous attitude.
Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools.
Perform other crossing guard related duties as may be assigned.
