Crossing Guard jobs in Roanoke, VA

• Regulates vehicular traffic at designated crossing to allow children to cross safely;
• Regulates children using the crossing to assure that they conform to traffic regulations;
• Assists bus drivers, parents, vehicle operators, police and school staff to ensure a safe and orderly school ingress and egress process;
• Attends meetings, gives statements, provides reports, and testifies in court as necessary;
• Regulates traffic/parking as special events and non-school locations as assigned;
• Performs miscellaneous duties to assist with D.A.R.E., special events and other school functions and events;
• Takes appropriate action with children who fail to cooperate and reports such action as required;
• Performs related tasks as required.

High school diploma (or GED) is required.

General knowledge of traffic regulations; ability and willingness to work in inclement weather throughout the year; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to deal courteously and firmly with children, vehicle operators, school personnel and citizens.

Requires the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires standing, walking, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for peripheral vision, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, and vibration.
