Curriculum Manager manages the design and development of training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for various audiences, including employees, managers, customers, or other learners. Oversees skill assessments and collects input to identify training or development needs, goals, gaps, and requirements. Being a Curriculum Manager consults with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and to design appropriate course content and training curriculum. Develops curricula supporting defined competency models or skill frameworks. Additionally, Curriculum Manager provides outlines, syllabus, lecture notes, and materials for in-person or online courses and self-study programs. Participates in the selection of software or collaboration tools used for training. Establishes metrics used to evaluate training effectiveness and analyzes outcomes to determine ROI and recommend changes to programs. May select and manage vendors that provide training materials or conduct training. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Curriculum Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Curriculum Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Lower School Curriculum Specialist

  • Under the supervision of the Head of Lower School and in collaboration with the Assistant Head of School for Academics, the Cape Henry Collegiate curriculum specialist will play a key role in fostering a culture of academic excellence by providing guidance, support, and expertise in curriculum development with a focus in the Lower School. The curriculum specialist will facilitate and support curriculum development and documentation in the Lower School, coach and mentor teachers around curriculum design, differentiation, and best instructional practices, and help lead and support ongoing curricular work across all three divisions. The curriculum specialist plays a pivotal role in collaborating with teachers to enhance instructional practices, promote innovative teaching, and work with other instructional leaders to align curriculum with the School's strategic objectives.

    To that end, the Curriculum Specialist will....

    • Collaborate with Lower School teachers to ensure appropriate documentation of the School's curriculum using the UbD model and the school's curriculum mapping software.
    • Work with the division head to create a curriculum review cycle which seeks to evaluate and revise the Lower School reading, writing, and math programs and provide professional development around those programs.
    • Meet regularly with grade level teams to ensure horizontal and vertical alignment of the Lower School curriculum and assessments.
    • Provide guidance and resources to teachers in grades PK-5 for developing and revising instructional materials, assessments, and learning experiences.
    • Oversee standardized testing ordering and implementation in grades PK-5.
    • Review student assessment data annually and use that data as part of the curriculum review process.
    • Work with the director of learning support to implement universal reading and math screenings at the beginning of the school year and provide coaching to teachers around how to use that data to support learning.
    • Plan and lead in house professional development related to instructional design principles, educational trends, and best practices in teaching and learning.
    • Serve on the Lower School leadership team and the academic leadership team, and also work closely with the Lower, Middle, and Upper School division heads to ensure strong vertical alignment, coherence, and continuity.
    • Participate in the recruitment of Lower School faculty and serve as a mentor to onboard and support faculty through an instructional coaching model.
    • Report to the Head of Lower School with regular meetings with the Assistant Head of School for Academics.

    The Curriculum Specialist will have...

    • Experience with the Understanding by Design (UbD) curriculum design model and the ability to guide faculty through the curriculum documentation process utilizing that model.
    • Experience with instructional coaching and a desire to support teachers in meeting the curricular and instructional goals of the school.
    • Strong organizational and communication skills.
    • The ability to work well with others and bring a team to consensus toward a common goal.
    • A comfort leading curricular conversations and discussing student testing data with parents.
    • A commitment to diversity, inclusion and belonging and an ability to support growth of curriculum and instruction in this area.
    • A creative and innovative educational mindset.

    Education and Experience:

    • Previous experience in curriculum development, preferably in an educational setting.
    • Some elementary teaching experience is preferred.
    • BA/BS from an accredited college or university, Master’s or other advanced degree preferred.
