Curriculum Specialist designs and develops training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for various audiences, including employees, managers, customers, or other learners. Conducts skill assessments and collects input to identify training or development needs, goals, gaps, and requirements. Being a Curriculum Specialist consults with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and to design appropriate course content and training curriculum. Develops curricula supporting defined competency models or skill frameworks. Additionally, Curriculum Specialist writes and edits outlines, syllabus, lecture notes, and materials for in-person or online courses and self-study programs. Evaluates the software or collaboration tools to be selected for training. Establishes metrics to use to evaluate training effectiveness. May collaborate with vendors that provide training materials or conduct training. May coach trainers. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Curriculum Specialist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     Education, Certification, and Experience:

    Minimum- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university

    Georgia Certification in the content area

    At least years of successful classroom teaching.  Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and teacher training

     

     

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Coordinates the K-12 instructional program with assistance from principals, department chairs and academic coaches
    • Develops and coordinates professional development activities focused on improvement of content knowledge and pedagogy
    • Analyzes student achievement data and uses the analyses for revisions to the content curricula, targeted teacher remediation and development and other planning
    • Stays informed of the latest research and instructional practices
    • Screens, evaluates and conducts interviews as needed for content area teaching applicant to provide assistance to principal and Human Resources
    • Works collaboratively with district and site-based staff to improve instruction in the content area
    • Visits classrooms regularly to provide support and assistance to classroom teachers and site administrators
    • Meets with teachers and principals to share feedback and plan for academic improvement or enhancement
    • Conducts monthly meetings with contact teachers, grade-level and department chairpersons at elementary, middle, and high school
    • Shares content area performance data with district staff and the community, and targets activities to show improvement
    • Prepares curriculum proposal and matters related to budget and finances.
    • Provides district and site based leadership in the selection, adoption, procurement and distribution of content area instructional materials, learning resources, and equipment
    • Provides leadership in annual development, updates and communication of curriculum tools and other related materials
    • Assist in the formulation and implementation of policies and regulations relatives to academics
    • Seeks and administers grants for content areas as needed
    • Participates in functions that promotes students, parents, and community involvement
    • Collaborates with Title I program to plan for school improvement
    • Provides support for Vertical Teaming of teachers
    • Serves as liaison for state initiatives in the content area
