Curriculum Specialist designs and develops training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for various audiences, including employees, managers, customers, or other learners. Conducts skill assessments and collects input to identify training or development needs, goals, gaps, and requirements. Being a Curriculum Specialist consults with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and to design appropriate course content and training curriculum. Develops curricula supporting defined competency models or skill frameworks. Additionally, Curriculum Specialist writes and edits outlines, syllabus, lecture notes, and materials for in-person or online courses and self-study programs. Evaluates the software or collaboration tools to be selected for training. Establishes metrics to use to evaluate training effectiveness. May collaborate with vendors that provide training materials or conduct training. May coach trainers. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Curriculum Specialist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     Alma School District is actively seeking an experienced, talented, and dynamic individual to join our highly successful and progressive schools. The goals and objectives for our literacy specialist include providing powerful job-embedded, ongoing professional development with a primary goal of enhancing classroom literacy instruction through improving teacher expertise. The literacy specialist will offer effective literacy coaching supports to successfully navigate the daily chalenges teachers face in their classroom during literacy instruction. The literacy specialist will collaborate with leaders and teachers through engaging practices such as co-teaching, co-planning, modeling and reflective conversation. Successful candidates will be detail oriented, independent self-starters who demonstrate an unwavering commitment to raising student achievement and who have a record of high performance in challenging situations.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL SET

    • Provide High quality professional development around effective literacy practices and foundations of reading
    • Provide feedback, engage in one-on one coaching and model best practices
    • Model and teach new high quality instructional materials
    • Research and organize response to intervention program in literacy
    • Perform coaching cycles of modeling, observing teacher, providing feedback and identifying next steps in improving core literacy instruction
    • Support lesson planning and guide curriculum mapping on a district wide continuum
    • Analze Data, identify trends and support teachers in adjusting instruction based on data
    • Communicate a belief in all students' abilities to become successful readers
    • Communicate with leadership team on school-wide and district-wide literacy progress
    • Punctual and regular attendance
    • Accept supervision and suggestions
    • Ability to maintain good relationships with peers and co-workers that are characterized by mutual support, respect, and cooperation
    • Able to build capacity among teachers by improving instructional practices and developing a collaborative atmosphere through mentorships and PLCs
    • Good physical health/condition to meet the demands of long hours
    • Maintain a positive attitude toward students and a cooperative attitude with co-workers
    • Ability to professionally communicate with students, co-workers, parents, and community
    • Maintain confidentiality pertaining to students and staff
    • Display leadership skills and effectively communicate or present information in multiple settings
    • Skillful as evidenced by: communication skills, collaboration skills, interpersonal skills, experience with facilitation of adult learners, time management, planning and organization
    • Ability to use good judgement in making decisions
    • Skillful with technology, must be able to learn how to use state systems and create local data documents

    EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS and/or EXPERIENCE


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Valid Arkansas Administrator License or Curriculum Program Administrator License
    • At least 5 years experience teaching literacy in a classroom
    • Masters degree or higher

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • K-12 literacy experience
    • Experience coaching teachers in the science of reading
    • Experience as an instructional facilitator
