Curriculum Specialist designs and develops training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for various audiences, including employees, managers, customers, or other learners. Conducts skill assessments and collects input to identify training or development needs, goals, gaps, and requirements. Being a Curriculum Specialist consults with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and to design appropriate course content and training curriculum. Develops curricula supporting defined competency models or skill frameworks. Additionally, Curriculum Specialist writes and edits outlines, syllabus, lecture notes, and materials for in-person or online courses and self-study programs. Evaluates the software or collaboration tools to be selected for training. Establishes metrics to use to evaluate training effectiveness. May collaborate with vendors that provide training materials or conduct training. May coach trainers. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Curriculum Specialist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     GENERAL SUMMARY:
    The Berkshire Community College Adult ESOL program strives to educate and empower a diverse community of adult English Language Learners in Southern Berkshire County and beyond. We provide quality English language instruction, create a community of support, direct students to and teach them how to access resources, and work with students to identify career and education goals. By improving students' academic, language, and technology skills, we will increase their opportunities to enter college, obtain an industry-recognized credential, and expand their career choices.

    Under the general supervision of the Director of the Berkshire Community College Adult ESOL Program, the ESOL Instructor and Curriculum and Instruction Coach, will teach two non-credit, student-centered, in-person English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes to adult, non-native English speakers. In addition, they will, along with the director, serve as the leader in the development and implementation of the BCC ESOL's instructional program. The ESOL Instructor and Curriculum and Instruction Coach, works with instructors to ensure that students receive a consistent, rigorous and relevant educational experience by reviewing weekly lesson plans, observing classes, lead curriculum meetings and coordinating instructor professional development opportunities.

    This position requires evening hours and an irregular schedule.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
    As Curriculum and Instruction Coach:
    Supports teachers through peer observation and lesson plan review connected to professional practice and student learning goals, structured sharing opportunities, and coaching connected to student learning and classroom-based assessment.
    Facilitates curriculum building, design and revision process to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment and rigor across all levels, learner engagement, and optimal attainment of learner goals and assessment outcomes.
    Supports teachers through coordination of curriculum processes, compliance with DESE guidelines, professional development, and Continuous Improvement Goals/focus areas.
    Work with Director to ensure that the curriculums is aligned to MA ELPS, is relevant to students and integrates digital literacy, civics, and workplace preparation skills.
    Coordinates and leads monthly curriculum meetings

    As Instructor:
    Provides high quality ESOL instruction that guides learners in identifying career goals and developing English language and work readiness skills.
    Develops dynamic, differentiated, and scaffolded lessons to help all students achieve their educational, career, and personal goals.
    Reviews resources and materials to ensure that they are culturally diverse and inclusive
    Submits timely and accurate student attendance, goals, lesson plans and any other information required in compliance with all deadlines
    Works closely with advising team to assist students with goal setting and achievement of educational and career goals.
    Attend SABES and DESE meetings as appropriate.
    Attend staff meetings and professional development training.
    Perform special projects and related responsibilities as initiated and requested.

    Job Requirements:
    Bachelor's degree in education or related field with at least three years of ESOL teaching experience required, preferably with adults in an Adult Basic Education Program. master's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (or TESOL Certification) preferred.
    Two years of curriculum development experience preferred
    Knowledge of the Massachusetts English Language Proficiency Standards (MA ELPS) preferred
    Knowledge of adult immigrant learner populations, especially as regards to educational needs and barriers to persistence
    Excellent organizational, communication, and technology skills
    Familiarity with Google Drive, Google Classroom, and Zoom preferred
    Ability to work inclusively, effectively, and flexibly with diverse faculty, staff and student population.
    A team player who is passionate for collaboration, problem-solving and learning new things
    A commitment to the advancement of immigrant populations
    Must be willing to participate in curriculum development, professional development and attend staff/program meetings throughout the school year.

    Additional Information:
    This is a one-year grant funded position. The position is 30 hours per week from August 14, 2023 to June 7, 2024. This position requires daytime and evening hours.

    Salary: $52,754 - $62,718 (Per MCCC Contract) Grade 4, Interval 30. Half-time annualized 30 hours per week (0.75 FTE) for 43 weeks; $39,565.50 - $47,038.50 per year; $32,717.63 -$38,897.22 for 43-week appointment period.

    Area of Assignment: Adult Learning Program

    Effective: August 13, 2023 - June 30, 2024
