Job Summary: This position is responsible for providing the leadership to develop, coordinate and evaluate all phases of the K-5 educational program within the district, advising and aiding teachers, principals and other administrative staff.

Education
- Master’s degree in education with emphasis in curriculum and methodology required
- Additional graduate work related to areas of responsibility highly desired
Certification
- Administrative endorsement
- Iowa evaluator license
- Elementary teaching certification
Experience
- Five (5) years of successful classroom experience
- Related administrative experience desired

Job Duties:
- Plans, implements and evaluates the instructional program with teachers and principals, including learning objectives, instructional strategies and assessment techniques.
- Coordinates, articulates, integrates and directs the K-5 educational program for the district.
- Applies data from research and district studies, and from student and program evaluations, to improve the content, design and delivery of the district K-5 curriculum.
- Works with appropriate staff to develop, maintain and revise curriculum documents based on systematic review and analysis.
- Serves as a liaison between the district and other agencies, including the AEA and Department of Education, for quality curriculum management.
- Uses recommended curriculum consultants to ensure the highest quality curriculum product(s) in the district.
- Provides leadership in the development of the elementary curriculum to comply with State Chapter 12 requirements (accreditation standards) and Phi Delta Kappa Curriculum Management Audit recommendations.
- Coordinates, with the Secondary Curriculum Coordinator, a PK-12 district curriculum.
- Establishes an effective communication network among teachers, buildings and administrators.
- Responds appropriately to situations that could impair the teaching/learning process or could threaten the safety and well-being of students and staff.
- Observes classroom instruction to provide specific feedback to teachers regarding alignment between curriculum design and delivery and the effectiveness of instructional strategies.
- Coordinates staff development activities to ensure those activities focus on curriculum delivery, and meet the needs of teachers within the educational program.
- Assists in the development and management of the department budget.
- Identifies and secures independent sources of resources that develop and implement funding for the district’s K-5 educational program.
- Ensures that all independent funding initiatives align and coordinate with the existing standards and benchmarks, comprehensive school improvement plan and the district educational program.
- Coordinates district-wide activities as appropriate for the K-5 curriculum department. These include, but are not limited to, the organization and initiation of all district-wide committees and task forces involved in the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of K-5 written curriculum, and facilitating meetings of K-12 teachers by content area to achieve the effective articulation and coordination of the educational program.
- Provides leadership in the formulation, implementation and assessment of the curriculum alignment process.
- Communicates district curriculum, instructional practices, accomplishments, goals and instructional initiatives to parents and the community, soliciting their input on these instructional issues.
- Communicates the district’s mission, instructional philosophy and curriculum implementation strategies to the media.
- Evaluates designated personnel.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
