Curriculum Specialist, Sr. designs and develops training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for various audiences, including employees, managers, customers, or other learners. Conducts skill assessments and collects input to identify training or development needs, goals, gaps, and requirements. Being a Curriculum Specialist, Sr. consults with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and to design appropriate course content and training curriculum. Develops curricula supporting defined competency models or skill frameworks. Additionally, Curriculum Specialist, Sr. writes and edits outlines, syllabus, lecture notes, and materials for in-person or online courses and self-study programs. Evaluates the software or collaboration tools to be selected for training. Establishes metrics to use to evaluate training effectiveness. May collaborate with vendors that provide training materials or conduct training. May coach trainers. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Curriculum Specialist, Sr. work is highly independent. May assume a team lead role for the work group. A specialist on complex technical and business matters.     The students of the Mississippi Achievement School District (mASD) need your talent, expertise, passion, and leadership.

    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    If you are a transformative teacher with unrelenting determination to see your students succeed, the School-Level Instructional Curriculum Support Specialist role at mASD will empower you to magnify your impact on students. School-Level Instructional Curriculum Support Specialists are experienced champions for children with proven track records of success in the classroom. School-Level Instructional Curriculum Support Specialists will be responsible for accelerating students’ learning and ensuring that they reach their maximum potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. 

    Your Summer:

    School-Level Instructional Curriculum Support Specialists will work with the Teaching and Learning staff with curriculum development and professional learning design and delivery as needed.

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: School-Level Instructional Curriculum Support Specialist will perform and fulfill all responsibilities assigned to mASD instructional staff AND… 

    • Use innovative practices and demonstrate content expertise and experience to maximize student growth. 
    • Plan and implement Project-Based Learning (PBL) units directly tied to conceptual essential questions and aligned to the mASD curriculum as appropriate to content 
    • Utilize flexible grouping and personalized learning to ensure instruction is personalized to the needs of students. 
    • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. 
    • Foster students’ goal-setting practice; Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
    • Participate in regular staff development activities that are targeted to School-Level Instructional Curriculum Support Specialists to improve teaching skills, particularly related to engaging, motivating, and accelerating students. 
    • Serve as a model for content-alike teachers  
    • Support instructional effectiveness of new teachers
    • Promote collaboration among multiple disciplines


    Measures of Success 

    Outcomes:

    • Demonstrates above-average proficiency, growth and/or satisfactory performance on district assessments, end-of-course exams, or other district, state, national assessments. 
    • Favorable performance ratings on Professional Growth Rubric 
    • Retention of School-Level Instructional Curriculum Support Specialist in the mASD

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a certification/license as a teacher in Mississippi in either ELA, Math (Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, etc.), Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc.), or Social Sciences (US History).  
    • Minimum of 3-5 years successful teaching experience. 
    • Evidence of success in achieving high levels of student growth in the grade/subject for which the teacher is applying.
    • Passion and motivation to assist students and teachers with experiencing success with learning who may not have had favorable experiences in school to date. 

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Teaching experience in a Title I/High Needs secondary school setting
    • Deep knowledge and understanding of the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards (MCCRS)
    • Excellent writing and public speaking skills. 
    • Outstanding organizational and planning abilities and strong ability to work effectively with individuals and groups. 

    SELECTION CRITERIA: 

    • Candidates should detail and/or provide evidence of the following in their cover letter: 
    • A strong belief that all children can excel academically  
    • A relentless drive to support academic success of all students, and 
    • An ability to adjust and be flexible to a multitude of situations in the school environment 
    • Proof of positive impact on student learning outcomes (include any applicable student data)
    • Content, course, and/or grade level preferences
    1. After the initial application screening, candidates invited to continue in the selection process will be asked to submit a teaching video demonstrating: 
    • Outstanding instructional planning and ongoing assessment of student progress 
    • Ability to provide instruction that motivates students, closes learning gaps, and accelerates student learning
    • An outstanding learning environment where all students can learn and thrive 
    • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills 
    • Criteria for video submissions is as follows:
      • Video should be no more than 1-2 years old
      • Video should be at least 30 minutes but no more than 60 minutes in length 
      • Video can be spliced or edited but should include a portion or all of the beginning, middle and end of the lesson. 
    1. After review of teaching video submission, candidates selected will interview with the leadership team of either Woolfolk Middle or Yazoo City High School.
