Curriculum Specialist, Sr. designs and develops training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for various audiences, including employees, managers, customers, or other learners. Conducts skill assessments and collects input to identify training or development needs, goals, gaps, and requirements. Being a Curriculum Specialist, Sr. consults with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and to design appropriate course content and training curriculum. Develops curricula supporting defined competency models or skill frameworks. Additionally, Curriculum Specialist, Sr. writes and edits outlines, syllabus, lecture notes, and materials for in-person or online courses and self-study programs. Evaluates the software or collaboration tools to be selected for training. Establishes metrics to use to evaluate training effectiveness. May collaborate with vendors that provide training materials or conduct training. May coach trainers. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Curriculum Specialist, Sr. work is highly independent. May assume a team lead role for the work group. A specialist on complex technical and business matters. Esperanza Academy Charter School (EACS) is located in the Hunting Park section of North Philadelphia and prides itself on serving the students in the community in which it is located. Currently serving grades K, 1, 4, 5 6-12, Esperanza Academy believes that education can be a vehicle for social and economic progress for marginalized communities.  As a result, we are relentless in our pursuit to provide our students with the best educational option in the Philadelphia area.

     

    Our proven track record of students who have historically been underserved sets us apart. The Academy has 11th-grade test scores above the city of Philadelphia average and value-added math and reading proficiency growth is among the highest in Pennsylvania. Students graduate at a rate exceeding 90% and drop out at a rate of only 1%.   For seven out of nine years,  the Academy has been awarded a silver or bronze medal rating in the US News ranking of Best High Schools in the country.

     

    By the fall of 2024, we will have fully expanded to a K-12 school serving over 2,200 students making us the second-largest single charter school in Philadelphia. 

     

    THE OPPORTUNITY

     

    At Esperanza Academy, we strive to provide an excellent and equitable educational experience for ALL students. Our team is seeking a Math Curriculum Specialist, K-8 for the current 2022-2023 school year.  Dually reporting to the Directors of Instruction at the elementary and middle grades buildings,  the Math Curriculum Specialist is strengthening the Academy Math curriculum program.  We seek a student-centered, detail-oriented, instructional leader who works with the end in mind. 

     

    The Math Curriculum Specialist, K-8, will be involved in the evaluation, refinement, and creation of a coherent, accessible, and effective Mathematics curriculum. This role will support school leaders with the implementation of a standards-based K-8 academic program. This leader will ensure the alignment of the Common Core and PA Core Standards and inform the creation of rigorous school-wide formative and summative assessments at each grade level.  The Math Curriculum Specialist will serve as the resident expert regarding the effective instructional strategies for the delivery of Math content.  As a result, this person will also coach teachers to sharpen their differentiated mathematics instruction. An effective team player, the K-8 Math Curriculum Specialist alongside the school-level leadership team will work to create a developmentally appropriate and seamless learning experience across grades in order to maximize student outcomes for ALL Esperanza Academy students.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • A passion for education and a belief that your zip code does not dictate your destiny.
    • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience specifically in school leadership, teacher coaching, curriculum development, or program leadership.
    • Experience in an urban setting with high percentages of ELD and SPED students.
    • Proven track record of success in creating, implementing, and sustaining academic growth over time.
    • Knowledgeable of both the PA Core and Common Core Standards for Mathematics
    • A Master’s Degree in Education or a related field
    • Applicable Certifications: Curriculum and Instruction PK-12, School Administrator, K-12, or Mathematics Coach PK-12
    • Clearances: All applicants must have current FBI, PA Criminal, and Child Abuse background checks.
    • Spanish fluency is preferred but not required.
