Curriculum Specialist, Sr. designs and develops training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for various audiences, including employees, managers, customers, or other learners. Conducts skill assessments and collects input to identify training or development needs, goals, gaps, and requirements. Being a Curriculum Specialist, Sr. consults with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and to design appropriate course content and training curriculum. Develops curricula supporting defined competency models or skill frameworks. Additionally, Curriculum Specialist, Sr. writes and edits outlines, syllabus, lecture notes, and materials for in-person or online courses and self-study programs. Evaluates the software or collaboration tools to be selected for training. Establishes metrics to use to evaluate training effectiveness. May collaborate with vendors that provide training materials or conduct training. May coach trainers. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Curriculum Specialist, Sr. work is highly independent. May assume a team lead role for the work group. A specialist on complex technical and business matters. Curriculum Generalist

  • To provide administrative and secretarial support to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction; to collaborate and plan with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction in order to perform the tasks necessary to keep all stakeholders satisfied in a timely manner; to monitor and maintain budgets assigned to the Office of the Director of Curriculum and Instruction; to monitor and maintain curriculum inventories required by the Public Education Department; and to perform a variety of duties relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Word process, proofread, and edit a wide variety of reports, letters, memoranda, meeting minutes, and policy statements; type from rough draft or verbal instruction; review finished materials for completeness, accuracy, format, and compliance with applicable policies and procedures.  Use of Google Workplace.
    • Provide outstanding customer service. Screen office and telephone callers; respond to complaints and requests for information or help with curriculum work; screen, sort, and coordinate the delivery of instructional materials; independently respond to correspondence.
    • Maintain and update specialized and accurate records and files; research records for information needed by customers or stakeholders; copy and distribute reports, research, data, and evaluations related to curriculum work.
    • Hospitality elements. Coordinate and provide support for various meetings, professional development, and special events sponsored by the Office of Curriculum and Instruction.
    • Request, gather and organize quotes for instructional and supplemental materials, online programs, and applications; including samples during adoption cycles.
    • Request, gather and organize data usage information from online subscriptions.
    • Create and track POs for professional development and travel for LAPS staff members.
    • Provide support in the preparation and administration of the assigned budgets; monitor expenditures, including reviewing and processing purchase requisitions and order; monitor incentive credit and stipends for staff development.  Prepare payment authorizations for invoices through the accounts payable office.
    • Ensure that all LAPS curriculum assets are tracked and secure as they move from vendor to the warehouse and to school sites including the LAMS and LAHS Book Depositories.
    • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Completion of High School Diploma or Equivalency (minimum)
    • Preferred specialized training in an Administrative Assistant position with four (4) years’ experience in a similar public school district setting
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find acceptable

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral mediums.  

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    • Ability to understand basic mathematical concepts to perform the required tasks
    • Ability to interpret the STARS and Power School databases and extrapolate information 

    REASONING ABILITY 

    • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical, written or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    TECHNICAL SKILLS

    • Demonstrated proficiency in use of Microsoft Office applications, Google platform and LAPS based programs
    • Techniques of business writing and report preparation

    • Ability to apply knowledge of current market trends and apply them to the work environment  
    • Exhibit and model strong customer service skills
    • Ability to work alone and meet multiple work parameters and deadlines
    • Ability to use new tools and technology as introduced to meet job duties
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with LAPS community
    • Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication
    • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies
