Curriculum Specialist, Sr. designs and develops training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for various audiences, including employees, managers, customers, or other learners. Conducts skill assessments and collects input to identify training or development needs, goals, gaps, and requirements. Being a Curriculum Specialist, Sr. consults with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and to design appropriate course content and training curriculum. Develops curricula supporting defined competency models or skill frameworks. Additionally, Curriculum Specialist, Sr. writes and edits outlines, syllabus, lecture notes, and materials for in-person or online courses and self-study programs. Evaluates the software or collaboration tools to be selected for training. Establishes metrics to use to evaluate training effectiveness. May collaborate with vendors that provide training materials or conduct training. May coach trainers. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Curriculum Specialist, Sr. work is highly independent. May assume a team lead role for the work group. A specialist on complex technical and business matters.     DEPARTMENT: Administrator
    REPORTS TO: COO
    FLSA STATUS: Exempt Non-Exempt
    PRIMARY FUNCTION:
    Directs the club-wide operations of a broad range of programs, (such as Education, Special Education, Social Recreation, Arts & Crafts, and Physical Education), with broad oversight of program activities. Plans, implements, supervises and evaluates all curriculum provided in program areas leading to the priority outcomes of Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles.
    KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
    Prepare Youth for Success
    • Ensure programs, services and activities that prepare youth for success, promoting safety of members and quality in programs at all times. Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
    • Contribute to the planning and implementation of the strategic plan by:
      • Planning, organizing and implementing a range of curriculums and supporting activities for use across all Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Illinois sites;
      • Researching and suggesting new curriculums with the approval of the COO;
      • Provide ongoing training and support on selected curriculums; and
      • Promoting and stimulating program participation.
    Ensure quality improvement by monitoring and evaluating curriculum achievement, recommending modifications that respond to member needs and interests and participating in weekly site director meetings.
    Health and Safety
    • Ensure a healthy and safe environment, supervising members in program area.
    • Manage facilities and ensure a productive work environment, maintaining an inventory of all curriculum equipment, technology and supplies in good order. Recommend requisitions, as necessary; controlling expenditures against monthly supply budget.
    Program Development and Implementation
    • Manage new and ongoing curriculums by continuous training at an administrative and site level.
    Supervision
    • Key leader and contact for annual Lego League curriculum, including sourcing volunteers, training and supervising all volunteers assisting with Lego League
    • Recruit, train and manage assigned volunteers and staff; provide ongoing feedback; and identify and support development opportunities.
    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • May participate in special programs and/or events (i.e. Keystone, Youth of the Year and Awards Programs), and/or participate in the implementation of other unit activities as necessary.
    • May be required to drive Club van.
    • Will be required to work occasionally after hours or on weekends to assist with events.
    RELATIONSHIPS:
    Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
    External: Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems.
    SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred in related field
    • Minimum of five years experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning academic activities or curriculum planning/creation.
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
    • Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities.
    • Knowledge of youth development.
    • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
    • Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff.
    • Ability to deal with the general public.
    • Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
    • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
    • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications.
    • Valid State Drivers License
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Standing for long periods of time (up to 90% of day).
    • Sitting as needed.
    • Full use of all limbs and at least one hand.
    • Ability to participate with youth in athletic and recreational activities, as needed.
    • Full verbal, color vision, and hearing ability.
    • Lifting up to 50 pounds on occasion.
    • Ability to intervene in controlling youth (ages 6-18), if necessary.
    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    • May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions during all seasons. Limited exposure during winter.
    • May be exposed to moderate to loud noise; unruly or irate youth and/or parents.
    • May be exposed to potentially dangerous situations including youth fighting or bringing unauthorized materials onto premises.
    • May be exposed to potentially dangerous medical situations; exposure to airborne diseases or infected blood while treating participants.
    • Exposed to risk of vehicle accidents while driving or riding in agency vehicles.
    • Risk of injury from being near, or participating in, athletic or recreational activities.
