Customer Information Center Manager manages a team that is responsible for analyzing contact center patterns, including volumes, trends, attrition rates, and contact center representative productivities. Oversees the configuration of the Automatic Call Distribution (ACD) system to automatically distribute calls uniformly among representatives. Being a Customer Information Center Manager monitors the productivity of customer service representatives. Ensures customer satisfaction by overseeing the call volume and redirecting inbound traffic as needed. Additionally, Customer Information Center Manager reviews call volume reports to coordinate and complete capacity planning within the contact center and identify potential problems. Evaluates historical and recent performance and statistics to identify trends. May act as a resource for more complex questions. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Customer Information Center Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions.     The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign provides supercomputing and advanced digital resources for the nation's scientific enterprise.     The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) is currently seeking an Information Technology Support Associate to be a member of the Technology Management Group (TMG) to provide primary technical support to NCSA. The primary responsibilities of this position include monitoring an operations center and helpdesk facility that operates on a 24/7 basis, 365 days per year. This includes, but is not limited to: installing, maintaining, and supporting hardware and software systems, responding to user requests and help tickets, monitoring computing and facility operations and researching solutions to complex computing problems. The incumbent must be able to work with a diverse population of technical and non-technical users, both internal and external to the University, and to analyze hardware and software systems. Excellent communication skills are essential. The work schedule for this position is Saturday-Wednesday; 11:00 pm – 7:30 am.

    Key Responsibilities:

    IT Helpdesk Support and Operations Monitoring:

    Help desk: serve as initial resource person for first-level error detection and correction.
    Respond to messages sent to the NCSA and XSEDE Help desks.
    Overall helpdesk systems monitoring

    Compute System Administration:

    Develop and maintain software tools as needed for NCSA operations support activities.
    Install, configure, test, and update computing hardware and software systems, coordinating with vendors as applicable. Document and report problems to vendors.
    Integrate computing hardware and software systems into the NCSA computing environment.
    Advise application developers, users, and consultants on optimal use of computing systems.
    Install, evaluate and maintain system-level software, including local modification of operating system software or system level software.
    Monitor use of system resources (e.g. processors, disk, and memory) and adjust configurations and/or design and implement system enhancements to achieve optimal use of system resources and/or user performance.
    Under the direction of the senior staff/supervisor, analyze and resolve system problems, including functional as well as performance issues.
    Maintain documentation on system capabilities and equipment, both for internal group use and for operations staff. Work with documentation staff to provide material for production of user documentation. Train other staff and consultants on support of new capabilities and services.
    Write, document, and maintain system administration tools and scripts for internal use. Research and obtain system administration tools available outside of NCSA as appropriate.
    Other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications/Specialty Factors
    Two years of progressively more responsible work experience in an Information Technology (IT) related profession in a system administration, computer operations or help desk/user support role. College course work which included Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline may be substituted as follows: 60 semester hours or Associate's Degree equals one (1) year. Demonstrated experience in software development, computer system (technical) management, performance analysis and tuning, or network architecture.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • BA/BS degree in computer science, engineering, IT or related field.
    • 3 or more years of related experience in one or more areas of system administration, computer operations or help desk/user support.
    • 1 year of experience with computing environments and a wide variety of software and hardware, HPC (High Performance Computing) experience highly preferred.
    • Experience creating content using HTML, XML, PHP preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    Excellent programming skills.
    Strong working knowledge of Linux/Unix systems.
    Linux/Unix software development skills in one or more of the following: C/C , Java, MySQL, PHP, Perl, Python, or shell scripting.
    Ability to diagnose complex hardware/software component and interaction problems.


    Appointment Information

    This is a 100% full-time Civil Service ITSA position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the position closing. Salary is commensurate with experience.
