Customer Segment Manager is responsible for all customer segment group research including extracting customer data and analyzing profiles to determine market segment requirements. Develops targeted product offerings or marketing campaigns based on customer profiles. Being a Customer Segment Manager provides information to sales and marketing teams to assist in the promotion of the organization's goods and/or services. Requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Additionally, Customer Segment Manager typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Customer Segment Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Customer Segment Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • UFG Is looking for an AVP - Professional Services and Real Estate Segment Manager to join the team.  In this role you will be accountable for the organization’s Professional Services and Real Estate profit and loss (P&L), ensuring results achieve growth and profitability objectives. This role is responsible for the ownership of the technical discipline for both industry verticals, which includes market segmentation appetite, providing consultation to staff and business partners, identifying needs for technical training and review of complex risks. This job serves as a technical resource to Underwriters and as a mentor to others. Responsibilities will include review of referrals based on technical complexity, market segmentation strategy, market appetite and collaborating with business leaders in analytics, product development, risk management, claims groups and branch leadership to ensure alignment.  

    Responsibilities

     

    • Monitor the mix of business for the portfolio, identifying shifts in the mix, evaluate performance and uncover areas of opportunity for growth through expanded appetite and profitability improvement.
    • Leads efforts in collaboration with senior management and line of business managers to develop appetite, guidelines, risk profiles and best practices for the construction segment.
    • Reviews applicant or written client files to determine potential hazards/risk factors and controls to assist in underwriting/risk selection.
    • Works closely with Middle Market Business Unit Leader, Segment Development Leader, LOB Managers and Risk Control to develop appetite, guidelines, and best practices. 
    • Provides technical expertise and is a resource to branch operations.
    • Conducts research for underwriters on specific class of business, operations, or any other technical subject requiring similar analysis related to manufacturing.

     

    • Work closely with the Product Development team to establish an industry-leading market segment suite of products.
    • Develop key analytic insights, leading indicators, and profitability drivers through internal and external research.

     

    • Maintains current knowledge of regulatory environment and emerging issues within those disciplines.
    • Collaborates well with all stakeholders involved in the execution of segment related deliverables, including upholding the highest standards of transparency and proactive communication.
    • Proactively research, provide analysis and recommendations for implementation of new appetite ideas. Contributes to the evaluation of the competitive landscape to ensure sustainability of the book of business and makes recommendations to improve competitiveness.
    • Provide technical expertise and maintain a thorough knowledge of company Product features and benefits as well as industry trends.

    Qualifications 

    Education: 

    • High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Property & Casualty industry or Product Management designations preferred.

    Experience: 

    • 15 years commercial insurance experience
    • 10 years of expertise in Professional Services and Wholesale Distribution risks

    Knowledge, skills & abilities: 

    • Exhibits exceptional technical skills as well as above average interpersonal skills & training ability.
    • Experience with large, complex, and middle market risks in manufacturing
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Strong influencing and decision-making skills.
    • Ability to think strategically with supporting analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to deal with ambiguity.
    • Expert knowledge of first-party lines of business, including Property and Product liability coverages, including associated underwriting technical processes and concepts.
    • Demonstrated successful ability to organize and prioritize work to ensure timely deadlines.
    • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively build relationships across all levels of the organization.
    • Experience influencing and collaborating at the executive level.
    • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.

    Working Conditions:

    • General office environment
    • Up to 20% travel including overnight stays.
    • Regular work duties may require work outside of business hours.
