Position :

This is a full time second shift position working 3p-11 : 30p working 40 hours per week, and every other weekend. Under general direction, Security Officers are responsible for monitoring all areas of the hospital in order to ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees.

Security Officers are on campus 24 / 7 and act as a visible deterrent to crime and policy infractions, as well as detect and report suspicious, unsafe or criminal acts at or near their assigned posts, which may be a threat to the property, staff, visitors or patients.

Occasionally interacts with psychiatric / violent patients. The position reports to the Director of Security Services. Qualifications :

• High school diploma or GED required. Must be at least 18 years of age
• Possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
• Licensing requirements are subject to state and / or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
• Up to 5 Years of verifiable experience, with 3 years in law enforcement, security, customer service or related field.
• Have intermediate computer skills, report writing and event logging using software (Outlook, Word, Excel)
• Emergency Preparedness training required within one year.

Responsibilities :

• The Security Officer is responsible for monitoring all areas of the hospital in order to ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees.
• Ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner.
• Ability to handle crisis situations calmly and efficiently
• Assist in lifting patients as needed to either assist nursing staff or help transport expired patients
• Restrain violent / combative patients to prevent injuries to themselves, others and yourself.
• Should obtain minimal level of proficiency of tasks through experience by the end of three months.
• Knowledge of principles of direct patient care, certain treatments, basic observations and essential points of care about emergency patients.
• Requires high level of mental alertness to avoid error and negative consequences to patients.
• Physical abilities must allow for frequent working, stooping, bending, and frequent lifting and moving of patients.
• All other duties as assigned
