Cytotechnologist examines cells of the cytoplasm and nucleus to determine pathological conditions. Separates sediment and cells from blood serum and categorizes slides and records classification. Being a Cytotechnologist receives and prepares specimens for analysis. Detects abnormalities and communicates to pathologist to arrive at a final diagnosis and report. Additionally, Cytotechnologist requires a bachelor's degree. Requires graduation from an approved school of cytotechnology and American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or I.C.A. registration. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Cytotechnologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Summary:
The Cytotechnologist is responsible for accurately screening and evaluating any gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimen sent to the laboratory for the determination of possible malignancy or related abnormal conditions. Cytotechnologist must also be competent with Fine Needle Aspiration collection in CT, Endoscopy, and Ultrasound. Individual must be self-motivated, reliable, and be able to work with other team members.
