Cytotechnologist jobs in Des Moines, IA

Cytotechnologist examines cells of the cytoplasm and nucleus to determine pathological conditions. Separates sediment and cells from blood serum and categorizes slides and records classification. Being a Cytotechnologist receives and prepares specimens for analysis. Detects abnormalities and communicates to pathologist to arrive at a final diagnosis and report. Additionally, Cytotechnologist requires a bachelor's degree. Requires graduation from an approved school of cytotechnology and American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or I.C.A. registration. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Cytotechnologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     A day in the life… 
    Wondering what a day in the life of a Cytotechnologist at The Iowa Clinic might look like? 
    • Arrive at work in the morning – no night shifts here!
    • This position performs routine and special diagnostic procedures related to cancer detection.
    • Must examine cytology specimens; detect and dot pertinent cells; and develop and communicate a reasonable differential diagnosis.
    • Must have the ability to sign out gynecologic specimens that are negative for intraepithelial lesions or malignancy.

    Required Licenses 
    • ASCP Board of Registry certified in cytotechnology, CT (ASCP) or eligible required.

    • Graduate of an accredited 12-month cytotechnology training program.
