Cytotechnologist jobs in Tallahassee, FL

Cytotechnologist examines cells of the cytoplasm and nucleus to determine pathological conditions. Separates sediment and cells from blood serum and categorizes slides and records classification. Being a Cytotechnologist receives and prepares specimens for analysis. Detects abnormalities and communicates to pathologist to arrive at a final diagnosis and report. Additionally, Cytotechnologist requires a bachelor's degree. Requires graduation from an approved school of cytotechnology and American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or I.C.A. registration. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Cytotechnologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     Process and prepare specimens for screening

    Report results accurately and timely

    Troubleshoot processes to maintain daily workflow

    Collect and handle statistical data and monitor quality assurance

    Research, assimilate and implement new technical procedures

    Respond to physicians and nurses when consulted

    Orient new employees

    Experience/Education:

    B.S. Degree in Cytotechnology or related physical or biological sciences plus

    certification in Cytotechnology from a CAHEA accredited school of Cytotechnology or other organization approved by HHS

    Certification by ASCP or other nationally recognized certification agency

    Competency assessment and continuing education in laboratory sciences required throughout employment

    A minimum of three years of experience as a Cytotechnologist required
