    Position Summary


    This is a non-exempt technical support position in the Digital Services micro imaging lab of the Wisconsin Historical Society’s Collections Division. The primary responsibilities of this position include developing exposed film in deep tank microfilm processor; operating the silver duplicator to make duplicate negatives and positives; conducting quality control checks of film; and conducting tests to ensure lab operation meets ANSI/AIIM standards. All procedures require that proper safety equipment and practices be used as needed.

    Duties:

    • Operation of microfilm duplication equipment
      • Operation of silver duplicator machine.
      • Thread camera negative into machine under safe light conditions and set proper exposure.
      • Remove original film and printed copy under safe light conditions, box printed copy to be processed.
    • Operation of deep tank microfilm processor.
      • Fill and periodically replenish developer and fixer chemicals.
      • Load exposed film into machine and remove developed film as necessary.
      • Keep production records.
      • Perform routine cleaning of processing system.
      • Observe appropriate safety procedures when handling/storing chemicals or operating equipment.
    • Conduct Quality Control testing of film to confirm it can safely be duplicated.
      • Check leader/trailer of each roll of microfilm. Address any issues found.
      • Check each roll of film’s density and reduction.
      • Reinforce bad splices in master negative.
      • Wear appropriate personal safety equipment while using lab chemicals.

    Salary Information


    Pay is $13.00 per hour. This classification is in schedule and class 02-11.

    Please note this is a Limited Term Employment position so it does not include paid time off or benefits upon hire.

    Job Details


    A criminal background check will be conducted by WHS prior to an offer of employment to determine if the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job.

    This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and limited to 1,039 hours. This position will be part time and average 20 hours per week.

    Wisconsin residency is required for Limited Term Employment positions.

    Limited Term Employment (LTE) positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to permanent civil service classified positions and do not lead to permanent status.

    WHS does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

    Qualifications

    • Basic knowledge of photography principles and equipment.
    • Basic knowledge of film scanning and digital image manipulation.
    • Basic knowledge of word processing database applications.
    • Basic knowledge of ANSI/AIIM Microfilm standards.
    • Basic knowledge of microfilm production methods.
    • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
    • Ability to do minor maintenance on equipment.
    • Ability to operate under limited supervision.
    • Ability to facilitate a positive attitude toward working safely.
    • Ability to keep accurate production records.
