    TITLE: Gate Attendant
    DEPARTMENT: Beach
    REPORTS TO: Business Manager, Deputy Beach Manager, or Beach Manager
    SUPERVISES: N/A
    JOB TYPE: Seasonal – May 24, 2024 to September 2, 2024
    WORK SCHEDULE: TBD – weekdays, weekends, and evenings required.
    SALARY: Based on established Pay Scale
    POSITION SUMMARY:
    The Gate Attendant is a seasonal position with the Town of Middletown responsible for allowing beach patrons access to the beach. This entails checking all vehicles upon their arrival at the check point for a Beach sticker or daily pass. The attendant ensures responsible and safe behavior, the absence of drugs and alcoholic beverages, no pets, and reporting any situation beyond his/her control to the appropriate manager.

    I ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.     • Greet all patrons in a professional manner, offering a high level of customer service.
    • To check vehicles as they enter the beach parking lots to ensure they have the required stickers/passes.
    • To sell daily beach passes to vehicles that don’t have a seasonal beach pass.
    • To ensure the cash drawer balances out at the end of the assigned shift.
    • To follow cash deposits and collections in accordance with established protocols.
    • To watch for violations of the Town’s ordinance as posted and to report infractions beyond the control of the Gate Attendant to the appropriate manager, such as those related to smoking, alcohol, drugs, and pets.
    • Assist with beach cleanliness and trash pick-up as needed. All Beach employees are required to help keep the beach facilities, parking lots, and beach area clean and litter free.
    • To direct visitors to available parking spot, if applicable.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.
    II NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the position and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties:
    • Requires basic knowledge of cashiering.
    • Must be able to be courteous to the staff, managers, beach patrons and the general public.
    • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and managers.
    • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    • Must possess excellent customer service skills.
    • Must be able to carry out instructions.

    III MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be at least 16 years of age.
    • Experience in performing the above-mentioned responsibilities is preferred.
    • Must demonstrate a commitment to the highest quality of customer service.
    • Must be available to work on evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
    • Must successfully pass a background investigation.

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside coastal weather conditions. The work environment is typically outside in all weather conditions and moderately noisy.
