Data Center Director directs and optimizes all operations of a data center facility to ensure data performance, availability, and security. Designs operating procedures and policies for installing, configuring, and maintaining servers, networks, and storage systems within a data center to maximize operational efficiency. Being a Data Center Director monitors environmental conditions to ensure optimal temperature, humidity, and power supply to prevent downtime and protect hardware from damage. Ensures timely, accurate, and consistent technical infrastructure service and presentation to internal and external clients. Additionally, Data Center Director coordinates with outside teams to identify and implement new systems to support existing and future business needs. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Data Center Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Data Center Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Job Summary

    Reporting to the Associate Director for Professional Connections and Assessment at The Career Center, play a lead role in collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting campus-wide graduate outcomes data for the Illini Success Initiative (https://illiniscuccess.illinois.edu/) as well as contribute to project coordination and communication efforts across campus. Since 2014, campus-wide collaboration has made the Illini Success Initiative possible. Collaborators include the Office of the Provost, Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL), Division of Management Information (DMI), Career Services Council, Office of the Registrar, Institutional Review Board Office, Council of Undergraduate Deans, Graduate College, and many more partners.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Data Management (30%)
    • Ensure data is gathered, stored, and used in an ethical, confidential, and secure manner
    • Gather knowledge rate data from various sources, such as National Student Clearinghouse, college partners, employer reports, and LinkedIn
    • Lead process to filter and clean raw datasets, coordinating support from campus partners
    • Integrate datasets, combining survey data and knowledge-rate data following prescribed procedures for accuracy and data quality
    • Work with DMI to make data available to appropriate on-campus audiences
    Data Analysis and Reporting (30%)
    • Create and maintain automated statistical reports
    • Review reports for accuracy before publication, with a high-level of attention to detail
    • Coordinate distribution and publication of data in alignment with NACE and NCES data standards
    • Develop custom reports tailored to the needs of specific stakeholders, such as the Chancellor’s Office, Office of Admissions, Government Relations, Public Relations, college offices, Student Affairs, The Career Center, etc.
    • Coordinate university-wide responses to approved national benchmarking requests (e.g. NACE)
    • Update content on the Illini Success website and ensure data is available through the faculty/staff data portal
    Data Collection (20%)
    • Manage survey project timelines and workflow for the Illini Success core team across multiple graduate cohorts in a given year
    • Collaborate with CITL and DMI to support survey administration and coordinate with academic departments, institutional research, the commencement office, and survey professionals across campus to ensure efficient data collection
    • Encourage and support campus-wide data collection events
    • Conduct annual qualitative data collection for student success narratives on the Illini Success website
    • Administer raffles and other data collection incentives to drive survey completion
    Project Coordination and Communication (20%)
    • Develop and update training resources related to use and management of the data with a particular focus on the College-level Data Specialists (a group of analysts who carry out localized graduate outcome queries)
    • Work with research supervisors to update and maintain the IRB, including training requirements for research team members
    • Pursue regular training and professional development opportunities related to data management and assessment, including trends and best practices for graduate outcomes
    • Monitor email address for Illini Success
    • Participate in relevant campus committees, such as the Assessment and Institutional Survey Committee

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree
    • One year of experience with data cleaning and the application and interpretation of statistical analyses (e.g. descriptive, inferential, variance analysis)
    • Demonstrated experience with statistical programs (such as SAS, Excel, Tableau, Power BI, R, SPSS, or Strata)

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master’s Degree in assessment, tests and measurement, statistics, data science, higher education or related field, or commensurate experience
    • Professional experience designing, conducting, and reporting on assessment projects, preferably related to college graduate outcomes
    • Knowledge of and experience in research design, survey methods, managing interviews, and other techniques for gathering quantitative and qualitative data
    • Knowledge of HTML programming
    • Experience with written and oral communication in higher education settings (especially providing information to decision-makers)
    • Experience working with sensitive data
    • Experience with or knowledge of college student engagement, including the relationship between learning environments and college outcomes

    Appointment Information

    This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 7/31/2023. Salary is commensurate with experience.
