Interested in restoring the natural world? Tierra Data, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Habitat Restoration Foreman to lead our growing Habitat Restoration Team in the Lompoc area. This role is to lead teams in the field undertaking habitat restoration works, comprising: invasive plant species control, native plant and seed installation, erosion controls installation, and irrigation installation and maintenance. The successful candidate will be mentoring and training employees, leading by example, undertake basic reporting and record keeping, ensuring the health and safety of your team, and encouraging and maintaining crew discipline, positive team culture and morale.
We are looking for a Foreman with a professional work ethic, and at least three to five years’ restoration experience. It is essential that you are able to communicate effectively to your team/managers, have excellent planning and problem-solving skills, and a positive and efficient work ethic.
RESPONSIBILITIES
May include but not limited to:
· Lead restorations crews on projects throughout a variety of habitat/ecosystem types
· Establish and supervise native habitat installation and maintenance crews
· Train crew in plant identification and best management practices and techniques
· Plan day-to-day crew activities towards desirable outcome
· Ensure crew safety and compliance with safe work standards
· Create and maintain positive client interactions
· Attend occasional meetings with TDI and/or client staff
· Effectively handle multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines
· Coordinate the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems
· Complete daily reports accurately and submit to Project Managers on a timely basis
· Oversee the inventory, maintenance, and organization of materials and field equipment and communicate to Project Managers when equipment needs servicing or materials inventory is low.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education
· A degree in biology, botany, ecology, conservation, environmental science, or related fields is preferred
Experience
· 3 to 5 years of landscape experience
· 3 years of irrigation experience (installation and maintenance)
· Experience managing multiple 4-5 person crews and projects simultaneously
· Strong knowledge of native and non-native plant identification species
· Ability to safety operate and maintain all field equipment including but not limited to skid steer, 4x4 ATV with spray rig, tractor, water pump, backpack sprayers, chain saws and line trimmers etc.
Licenses or Certificates
· Valid California Driver’s License
· California Qualified Applicator Certificate and/ or Qualified Applicator License (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment)
Other Desired Skills
· Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred, but not required
· GPS use and other hand-held devices (e.g., phone, camera, tablet).
· Good organization, communication and problem-solving skills
· Reliable and responsible work ethic
Position requires prolonged moving, walking, stooping and kneeling. Ability to push, pull, carry and lift over 50 pounds multiple times per day. Work outdoors in all types of weather conditions and exposure to elements 8 to 10 hours per day. Frequently walking on rough and uneven terrain. May include heavy to moderate noise, close proximity to moving equipment or machinery. Exposure to materials, tools, herbicides and equipment used in construction and landscaping. This position is full-time but depends on project requirements and weather conditions. Overtime hours may be required during the peak installation/growing season. Position is not eligible for company benefits except as required by applicable law.
