Position Purpose Under general direction, this leadership role owns delivery of RLI data and analytics solutions that drive efficiency and value to our business. This starts with building and enabling an autonomous and empowered technical team that aligns with RLI’s ownership culture. You must challenge our thinking, engage the team, cultivate productive relationships and make decisions. You will drive accountability and success across our practice, including simplification of data processes and management, integration of 3rd party data and models, and delivery of intuitive applications and visualizations. You will work closely with product management, customer success and enterprise architecture teams to ideate, design and deliver our next generation of data and analytics solutions. This also includes developing our execution path for migrating legacy, on-prem data warehouses, stores, and processes to cloud-based technologies. You will stay current on technology and trends, while maintaining command of all data technologies (e.g. database structures, data formats, programming languages, and transformation tools). You must have extensive communication skills that enable you to educate, advise and influence technical and leadership teams. In collaboration with cross-functional teams, you will ensure data governance best practices are clear, understood and enforced. Principal Duties & Responsibilities Takes a people-first leadership approach to ensure team is empowered and motivated. Provides training opportunities and ongoing guidance to the team to help in professional development relating to behaviors, standards, technologies, and agile processes. Identifies opportunities to augment the skills of the team with new hires or 3rd party consultants in a fiscally responsible manner. Drives timely delivery of data and analytics solutions that meet high quality standards and user expectations, including managing change and user impact in collaboration with customer success. Oversees operating processes and infrastructure to ensure solution availability, reliability, scalability, security, and recovery. Works collaboratively with product management to create and execute an implementation roadmap and resolve conflicting priorities. Challenge, designs, and builds in alignment with our enterprise data architecture. Makes build vs. buy decisions pertaining to all facets of data management and the downstream distribution of data and analytics within end user workflows. Works with IT leaders and architects, product management, and software and data engineers to translate and negotiate business requirements and priorities into iterative, optimal solutions. Stays current on insurance IT Trends and emerging technologies to inform new innovations. Continuously reviews progress against data strategy, objectives and deliverables and adapts as needed to optimize delivery and customer satisfaction. Education & Experience 10 years of relevant technical experience 5 years in a people leadership role Knowledge, Skills, & Competencies Proven exceptional interpersonal and people leadership skills through empathy, active listening, collaboration, facilitation, conflict resolution and influence. Proficiency in advanced topics in data and analytics, including data lakes, data science tools and methods, and data management. Experience working with traditional and cloud data platforms, like SQL Server, AWS, Azure, Snowflake, Databricks, MongoDB, etc. Experience working with BI and reporting tools (e.g., Qlik, Power BI, and Tableau) and data management tools (e.g., Informatica, Azure Data Factory, and Matillion). Experience with transmission and transformation of API data formats, including XML and JSON. Knowledge of programming languages, including R and Python. Working knowledge of agile methodologies and DataOps best practices. Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizations skills. Must be highly adaptable and demonstrate intellectual curiosity. Familiarity with insurance products and information is preferred.
