Security Supervisor

MAIN FUNCTION:

The Security Supervisor leads the activities of the Department, coordinates staff scheduling to ensure 24/7 coverage and patrols as assigned. The Security Supervisor is additionally assigned posts and is responsible for protecting patients, visitors, employees and hospital property. Onboarding, training and credentialling is overseen by this role to ensure CMS compliance. Acts as a liaison between Wooster Community Hospital and local law enforcement.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Security

MUST HAVE REQUIREMENTS:

3-5 years of related security experience.

High School Diploma or GED

Valid Ohio driver’s license.

Must be insurable and meet expectations of Wooster Community Hospital to drive Hospital Vehicles.

Completion of the WCH Orientation which includes ALICE and Verbal Judo training.

IAHSS Basic CHSO (Certified Healthcare Security Officer) within 6 months and maintained.

BLS certification within 12 months and maintained.

Basic computer skills

Has appropriate interpersonal skills.

No written disciplinary action within the last 12 months.

Excellent interpersonal skills

PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES:

1-3 years of supervisory security experience.

Healthcare Security Experience

Knowledge of DNV/CMS requirements as it relates to Safety and Security

Law enforcement experience with bachelor's degree

Proven communication skills

Security/Safety experience with a multi-campus system

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Employee in this position may be exposed to blood, body fluids and/or airborne pathogens and is required to wear barriers.

POSITION EXPECTATIONS:

• Plans, coordinates and leads the activities of the Hospital’s security team.
• Acts as a liaison with the HRO’s (Hospital Resource Officers) and local law enforcement.
• Is knowledgeable of WCH emergency procedures i.e. fire, disaster, hazardous materials, etc.
• Analyzes security incidents and makes recommendations for improvement to the Director.
• Provides guidance to the security personnel which includes training.
• Provides guidance to WCH employees concerning Workplace Violence.
• Participates in the Emergency Preparedness and Physical Environment Committees. As part of these committees, assists with evaluation of plans and the development of procedures and policies.
• Takes proactive steps to provide a secure and safe environment for staff and visitors.
• Conducts regular walk-throughs and security inspections at all hospital facilities.
• Provides recommendations of security needs including technologies and equipment to the Director of Security during the annual capital budgeting process.

Promptly investigates and reports any breach of security (destruction of property, vandalism, theft, unauthorized access, safety violations).

Responds when requested to escort or aid WCH personnel as needed. Patrols parking lots and is visible during shift change.

Assists visitors/patients as requested, greets customers and offers assistance with directions.

Works closely with HRO’s (Hospital Resource Officers) and other local law enforcement agencies

If an injured person would be discovered in the parking lot or other area, calls for help and stays with victim until assistance responds.

Responds to various emergency codes.

Notifies House Supervisor and/or Director of any abnormal activity immediately. Notifies police immediately during emergencies or when unlawful acts are committed.

Recognizes the potential for problems such as workplace violence or other safety related concerns. Attempts to diffuse or offer assistance. Keeps nursing supervision informed.

Remains flexible and appropriately responds to the circumstances.

Maintains the facility's lost and found. May have to secure valuable property to ensure that it is not lost, tampered with, or stolen.

Follows appropriate Service Standards.
